ALL THAT'S GOOD ABOUT FOOTBALL

Sun May 05, 2013 9:38 am

What a weekend, went up with my good wife and my good mate Corky on the CCSC mega luxury bus (sky on the road) get to York for midday Friday, day doing the tourist bit in town and a nice meal and drinks, back to hotel watch footie in the bar with a great crowd and great banter.

leave hotel at ten after a nice brekie for a short ride to Hull, start seeing fancy dresses City fans on every approach road to the ground, get to the coach park and there's a massive party atmosphere with more dressed up than not, every one high as kites.

Into the stadium and a drink with loads of mates and everyone with beaming smiles and no worried faces ( a rare treat for us)

Well no need to describe the game, mental, great entertainment, great atmosphere and at the end of the day a result that in all honesty suited most of us present, no special feelings for Hull, but didn't like the way Watford had gone about things and also seeing the worry on the Hull fan's faces brought back so many memories and most of us could totally empathise with how they felt.

Well the drama at the end couldn't have been tenser it must have made great car crash TV, and the banter between our fans and the Hull fans changed by the minute from, borderline hatred and aggression to total love in the next.

I think things could be summed up by the fact that I don't think one of our fans left at the end of the game because we wanted to share with and be part of the Hull pressure, mind you, us singing squeaky bum times was a great piss take.
Also we're come for you, you Jack Bastards and the Hull fans singing along with we're coming with you was a classic.

The fellow football fans bond just built and built and built, but saying that I always felt that while they were on the pitch waiting for the Watford result and thousands of them facing us in a mass sing song, if Watford had scored and some of ours had cheered, it could have led to mass punch up, but that's part of the heady mix of rivalry, passion and fellowship that unless you are into it, you'll never quite understand.

The relief and sheer joy among all present when the result came through was almost as good as the feeling I got when we confirmed our promotion, mad really, because when we play them next season, I'll be hoping they fail miserably and we resume hostilities, but again all part of things that make me love this game.

It was funny when we exited the stadium and thousands of their fans were stood the other side of the fence clapping and cheering us, and remembering that five years ago our fans were within a whisker of having the fence over and getting stuck into the people who were now clapping us.

The bus ride out through the stadium grounds and surrounding streets made us feel like royalty the streets were lined with fans clapping us rather than throwing bricks as was the case more often than not in previous years.

What a day and how far we have come as a club and as a set of fans had a great journey on the roller coaster that is Cardiff City, was there when hooliganism started, see bad things seen exciting adrenaline surge things, but happy to say I have also survived to see hooliganism fade to almost nothing.

Gwyn Davies, enjoying modern football, but not forgetting the old times either. :old:

I haven't forgotten I'm into you for a few sherberts, but I guess that'll have to wait until the Premier games come around. I still can't believe it. :malky:

Enjoy the parade one and all. :ayatollah:
