Bellamy Out, Maynard And Campbell In Etien On The Bench

Fri May 03, 2013 2:50 pm

Craig Bellamy's season is over after the striker was ruled out of Cardiff City's last game at Hull tomorrow.

The Wales international is carrying an Achilles problem and is part of a list of players all deemed unfit by manager Malky Mackay and his medical staff.

Heidar Helguson, who will leave the club to move back to his native Iceland this summer, is out with his on-going calf injury, and defenders Matthew Connolly and skipper Mark Hudson will not travel to Humberside with their respective ankle problems.
It means youngster Ben Nugent will line-up along side Ben Turner in the Bluebirds defence in a match Hull have to win to be sure of joining the Bluebirds automatically in the Premier League next season.

But there could be a return for two injured strikers, with Fraizer Campbell recovered from his shin problem and Mackay confirming that long-term absentee Nicky Maynard may get a run off the bench after missing almost the entire season with his cruciate knee problem.

Slovakian striker Etien Velikonja will also travel for the champions last outing of the current campaign.

Fairly strong line up maybe then, defence is weak but thankfully that doesn't matter anymore :malky:

Personally I'd rather play Whitts out wide than either Conway or Noone. We need to get Whitts back into the fold as he is one of our best players in terms of talent.

I think hes giving Whitts a full rest.

He's been with us for 6.5 seasons and played 298 games that's an average 45 games a season basically not missing a league game. This season is the first in four seasons he will play less than 50 game. He'll be forgotten about over the summer and he'll be back fresh next season to reclaim his spot

I'm not going to get too exited about these omissions as I'm sure you didn't become champions without having strength in depth.

What's the feeling in Hull? Do most of you think you'll beat us or do you think the nerves will get to your players? Big occasion.....don't envy you. Though I think dirty Leeds may sneak a draw in Udinese :ayatollah:

It would be nice for Maynard to get a goal.

The last 3 results have knocked the stuffing out of us. There's a lot of pessimism amongst the fans. There's a lot of nerves amongst the players. As a club we've generally underperformed for most of out 109 years. Therefore our default setting is to expect the worst.

I think we'll lose 2-1 with Watford and Leeds drawing. Then we'll lose in the play off semis against Bolton.

Cardiff can play with no nerves or pressure and all the confidence of knowing they got the job done. We'll have to play with passion in our hearts to scrape a result as the football hasn't really been flowing since January. I doubt that'll change tomorrow with so much on the line.

God you sound like us over the last 40 years

For what it's worth I hope we win, I want us to win everything, but would prefer you to come up with us than Watford.

Nothing against Watford fans who have always been pretty welcoming, it's just it doesn't seem right the way they have done it - the same guy shouldn't be allowed to own 3 football teams in Europe at the top level. That's just wrong.

For once you might be cheering Leeds on

I was hoping they'd change the rules so that they're both allowed to lose before kick off tomorrow.
