No room for sentiment if we want to survive in the Prem, "Super Kev" always has been my favourite player (his is the only name I've ever had on the back of my shirt) but I don't believe he's Prem standard, a couple of seasons ago yes but I believe we need better now.
Malky will not be ruled by his heart he will build the squad he needs for us to survive and unfortunately I don't think that will include Kev. :(

Deserving and being good enough are 2 different things. Kev's been my fav player for years but I sadly believe he doesn't warrant a contract even as a back up, we need to survive next season and I believe Kev could well be taken to the cleaners by some Prem wingers if he ever was called upon because of injuries/suspensions. Like I said sadly no room for sentiment. :(

I actually think we're doing Kev a disservice by doubting him. Just look at his performances since he came back into the team, his pace going forward gets the team moving in the right direction and, whilst I accept, there is often a disappointing end product changing the impetus can sometimes being even more important. His covering behind the CBs is also something that is overlooked.

One more thing; when Palace came to us on Boxing Day many were fearful that Zaha was going to rip Kev a new arsehole  However, Kev kept him very quite and just demonstrated that as a man marker he is exceptional, something that might be very important in certain games next season.

Don't get me wrong, I would be surprised if Kev was an automatic first teamer next season but I do think that he has more than enough in his locker to be a very valuable squad player :notworthy:

I think he should be offered a 1 year contract, He won't be on the first team and unlikely to be on the bench....He's be a rotational player. He's certainly worth 1 more year he deserves it! :ayatollah:

No room for sentiment and we need a much better RB.

However Super Kev is the ideal utility player, can play across the back four, has a work ethic and a brilliant engine. Makes sense to keep him on and doubt he would be on a huge wage.

As much as i have admired Kevin MacNaughton over the seasons and do agree he has been a great servant for us Malky has to be ruthless in his endeavours to keep us in the Premiership , personally i think we need better than MacNaughton and it is just plain simple ludicrous to expect us to fork out Premiership salaries just for sentimental reasons.
Yes he has been a great player for us but on the flip side an F A and League cup final appearance, Championship play off final and a championship winners medal with a few Sottish caps thrown in for good measure is decent enough reward .

We do need better and will get better to start but as back up? We won't pick up a new player happy to play 2nd 3rd fiddle like I think Kev would.

And he would command a prem salary as he isn't a prem player. His salary offer will be dependant on what other clubs offer him.
