Cardiff Council have sent us the following travel advice for Cardiff City’s Football League Champions parade this Sunday. Please take note ahead of what will be an enjoyable Sunday for all, making provisions for travel delays and busy parking.
Visitors to and residents of Cardiff are welcomed along to take part in a parade on Sunday 5th May commemorating Cardiff City Football Club’s huge success.
We are expecting people to make the most of the Bank Holiday break and celebrate with us, and as a result we offer the following advice for those travelling in and around the city centre.
There will be road closures in place to support this event.
·
The Flourish in Cardiff Bay will be closed from 6:00am.
· Castle Street and Kingsway will be closed from 2:00pm
· The route to the Bay (St Mary Street, Callaghan Square and Lloyd George Avenue) will be closed from 4:00pm dependent on crowd numbers.
Drivers are advised to allow plenty of time for their journey, and utilise city centre car parks.
Where possible, we strongly advise that visitors utilise public transport. For changes in bus services due to the associated road closures, please visit individual operator websites.
Provided the weather holds up, why not walk from the city centre to the Bay?

With Cardiff City’s promotion secured as Champions to the Premier League, their victory parade will leave the City Centre on the afternoon of Sunday 5 May heading to Cardiff Bay. This will mean that there will be changes to buses both in the city centre and Cardiff Bay areas.
Buses on baycar will follow their Friday & Saturday night route around the city from 1400 until last bus and operate via County Hall instead of Wales Millennium Centre. Additionally between 1630 and 1930 they will start and end in Greyfriars Road then operate direct to County Hall not serving Westgate Street, St. Mary Street or Central Station South.
Buses from the North and Newport (21, 23, 27, 28, 39 & 30) will start and end in Greyfriars Road from 1400-1930.
Buses from the East (44/45, 49/50, 52 & 57/58) will start and end in Churchill Way from 1400 until last bus.
Buses from the West (25, 33, 60, 61 & 62) will not serve Westgate Street or Cardiff Bridge from 1400-1930.
Buses on routes 8 & 9 will start and end in Central Station (Wood Street) between 1400 and 1930. After 1930 they will follow their Friday and Saturday night route around the city centre.
Buses on routes 12 & 13 will not serve Westgate Street, Canal Street, Dumfries Place or Greyfriars Road. Travelling to Splott and Tremorfa customers will need to go to Churchill Way and to Ely and Drop to Central Station.
As it is expected to be a busy event extra buses between the city centre and Cardiff Bay. Anyone looking to travel to Cardiff Bay will need to go to Greyfriars Road (route 6) or Central Station - Wood Street (route 8). Returning from the Bay the message is very simple - buses to the city will leave from either County Hall or Mermaid Quay.
