Cardiff City reach 'amicable' deal with Dave Jones over unpaid bonuses

Former boss had threatened High Court action against Bluebirds over £539,000 claim for unpaid bonuses
Cardiff City have reached an “amicable and confidential settlement” with former manager Dave Jones over a £539,000 claim for unpaid bonuses.
The club revealed to WalesOnline that negotiations with representatives of Jones, now manager of Sheffield Wednesday, on Tuesday had been successful.
Jones was manager of the club between 2005 and 2011 and said he was “glad the issue had been resolved”.
Earlier this week, a document filed with the High Court revealed how he was seeking payment of an FA Cup Final bonus worth £150,000, bonuses totalling £450,000 for reaching the play-offs in 2010 and 2011 and £189,821 payment for his contract termination when he left the club.
Deducted from that sum in Jones’ claim was a £250,000 payment mad in April 2011.
But now the club has revealed that a confidential settlement has been reached – averting the need to go to court.
Cardiff City chairman Simon Lim said: “On behalf of Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Cardiff City Football Club, I thank Dave Jones for speaking with us in Cardiff on Tuesday, resulting in an amicable settlement being reached.
“All at the club thank Dave Jones for his valuable contribution to the club during his tenure as manager and wish him our very best in his future career.”
Jones led the club to an FA Cup Final in 2008, a Championship play-off final in 2010 and the play-offs again in 2011.
He revealed direct talks with the Bluebirds’ major benefactor Vincent Tan earlier this week soon saw the matter solved.
Jones said: “I would like to place on record my thanks to Tan Sri Vincent Tan, Simon Lim and representatives of Cardiff City Football Club for the professional nature in which this matter was concluded in recent days.
“Having spoken directly with Mr Tan, informing him of matters that he had no prior knowledge, an amicable agreement was quickly reached to the mutual benefit of all concerned.
“For that he has my gratitude.
Jones went onto congratulate the club for their on-field success which has seen them reach the Premier League this year.
He said: “I am glad that this issue has been resolved, following what was an enjoyable period of my managerial career in South Wales.
“I congratulate the club for their promotion and extend my best wishes to the supporters and staff at Cardiff City. I will monitor their progress in the Premier League next season, wishing Malky Mackay and his squad every success.”

I thought this was a wind up joke, well the bit about DJ congratulating us anyway.
I wonder what the settlement figure was?

The club has moved on so much, pity Jones threatened High court action but its a done deal now and the club have acted swiftly to solve this. I really miss the high court days though and the prospect of the club going bust every other week...lol We need to enjoy this period of our history, we waited long enough.

Spot on Corkmeister, the money behind the club now is unbelievable.
Just get Tan to turn his loans into equity and we are debt free!

Absolutely agree.
Things seem to be dealt with in a far more professional ( and timely) manner nowadays.
Someone must have written those compliments for Dave Jones though.... can't see him saying those things even through gritted teeth!
Mrs Jones must be smiling - should add a few extra bob onto the divorce settlement.

Jones is a f"""""" hypocryt. He and ridsdale only looked after themselves, jones is a bitter twisted tw*t who should be sued for loss of revenue, Adam Matthews, chris Burke, Ross mccormack just to name a few

You're the one that sounds bitter & twisted...
Matthews? Fair enough, Burke left of his own accord & so did Rossco - he's not exactly done much since leaving us either.

I didnt know the manager payed players and gave them contracts when he feels like he can only put it forward to the board. How can it be jones fault players leave if there contracts are up, players will sit on the bench and in the stands if there getting payed enough as proven by many out there

What about the players he bought for peanuts and sold for millions?
If the guy is legally entitled to money then he has every right to claim it. How many of us would let their employers off paying us a bonus if we were legally entitled to it? Hmmmmmmmmmm.
I wonder how many people abusing Jones are still taking advantage of the golden ticket scheme? They are the hypocrites.

Personally I didn't because I was waiting to see what players we were going to buy, didn't materialise and all the money went !!!!. As far as buying for peanuts and selling for millions who are you talking about? I remember Harry red knapp saying there was one player he feared in the fa cup final, jones didn't have the balls to play him. Jones is nothing but a money grabber

Roger Johnson
Glenn Loovens
Michael Chopra
To name three all bought for peanuts all sold for a combined total of 12.5m but dont let the facts get in the way of a good witchhunt Stuey

the money jones generated from selling players for profit helped keep us afloat ffs.
he was owed money no doubt but not all that he was claiming.
a settlement has been reached, im guessing its not for the total sum of money and a compromise which i believe is the right outcome.
now we can get on with the premier league and jones can go back to playing golf instead of managing wednesday.

What the golden ticket that the money from was meant to buy players

, why hypocrites we were told the money from the golden ticket sales would go to DJ for players, DJ must of known what state the club was in, and he must of wanted to protect his own wages, and the golden ticket sale done that for a while. Myself i'm not abusing the man, but anybody that does doesn't bother me. At the end of the day we were conned into buying the golden ticket, so why should we feel like hypocrites just because we got something from it.

You are hypocritical because you slag off Jones for taking financial advantage, yet you continue to take financial advantage of the club long after Ridsdale was gone.

How did Jones do it to you
Slag off Jones for taking money out of the club, although he was legally entitled in his AGREED contract, yet you are doing the same to the club by paying under the odds for a season ticket.

Massive hypocrite.

I didn't do the deal the club offered the deal so yes i am HAPPY with paying under the odds as you say.
A massive hypocrite is someone like you, who said feck buying a season ticket for next season and all you said to go with that, next thing you buy your season ticket on the last day, the lure of the prem is just that bit to much to miss out on. That is a massive hypocrite, you talked the talk but didn't walk the walk

Lure of the prem

Ive been here through all the divisions
A football club is for life not just for one season.
The lure of not cutting my nose off to spite my face because of one crazy man, and then being replaced by a bell cheese like you was my thinking. Thats not hyporcritical, it boiled down to common sense in the end.
You on the other hand, complain Jones is ripping the club off financially yet you do it when it suits your pocket.
HYPOCRITE
