I started watching the Bluebirds when I was 6 or 7 years old (84 – 85 season) partly because I got comp tickets through my aunty, a neighbour of Dave Tong. This was my first introduction to live football away from TV football and to be fair, a lower standard of professional football. I enjoyed the days and the atmosphere but in general the quality was poor so it is no wonder that the vast majority of my peers and friends had a ‘top league’ team! Nothing personally against that as it’s clear that if you support the likes of Cardiff City back then the outlook was limited and involvement in what’s really important in footballing terms is few and far between.
What made the initial impression with me was the Echo’s Junior bluebird club which allowed for bargain price entry and plant the seed which has got me to where i am today, i hope the club can reintroduce this type of initiative once we have made the expansions. I have been living abroad between 2001 and 2008 where my love affair with the bluebirds cooled as you can imagine when other priorities take hold but i tried to get back as often as possible to attend the key games which of course makes me as plastic as an Mastercard. Since then I have been back full time i now go to every game i can and have had a season ticket for the last 4 years.
CCFC has become my life these last few years and this Saturday and Sunday will be the culmination of 20 odd years of heartache and near misses, albeit intermittently. So all those “you’re a jolly come lately plastic fan” remember this. We all start off somewhere, by hook or crook, whether an ex-manure, scouse, gunner or spurs fan, once converted to a Bluebird this will never change unless we drop out of the league or existence, we have a new follower and trying to discourage this is insane and self defeating.
We need to go door to door proselytising the word of Malky just like the Jehovah’s witnesses do, well maybe not but you catch my drift. Convert the unconverted, preach the gospel of Malky and awaken the sleeping giant of FA league football
