A forum for all things Cardiff City

http://www.lifesapitch.co.uk/laptv/two- ... ammers/?It’s not just the Premier League big boys scouring the market for signings to boost their prospects for next season. The rumour mill is flooded with transfer talk, but will stories linking Fulham’s David Stockdale – on loan at Hull – with West Ham, QPR’s Jamie Mackie (pictured) with newly promoted Cardiff, and West Brom striker Shane Long with Schalke end up as completed deals? The Life’s a Pitch team provide the answers, marking each rumour out of 10 for probability.
Stockdale’s name might well be on a list of Fulham players in Martin Jol’s back pocket under the heading of ‘Get rid’, but he must be doing something right as both Hull and West Ham are keen on making him their No1, says the People’s Dave Kidd. “If Hull go up, they’ve basically got first option on Stockdale – if they can come up with around £4m. So Hull are more likely than West Ham, but West Ham are certainly looking at Stockdale. They’ll be looking at a lot of keepers as Jussi Jaaskelainen has been outstanding, but he’s getting on a bit, so they’re looking for someone to challenge Jaaskelainen for his place. All in all, I’d say that West Ham is probably a three out of 10, Hull probably a six out of 10.”
Across London, Mackie has just been relegated with QPR, but Tom Hopkinson, also of the People, believes he’ll be staying in the Premier League with Cardiff. “I can see this one happening. I’d go a minimum of eight out of 10, maybe even higher. I think Jamie Mackie would be a very good signing for a team like Cardiff; he’s got a couple of years of Premier League experience now and is very hard-working. And the main reason he’ll be leaving QPR is because he’s not on great money there and I think Cardiff will be able to give him a far better wage.”

Hope not.

Mackie will not be Cardiff player.

I posted this because most on here know Malky is a huge fan of this lad and as an early rumour this has got some legs.Would do a great job for us here and I'd be surprised if we didn't have a lot of competition for his signature.Besides he knows some players down here and would probabley speak to them too.

No thanks. I think we can do better, not prolific and just known for his work house, shooting accuracy is dreadful

He's just another hard worker with no real quality. If he can't get in the team that has just been relegated so why would we want him to help us survive? Not good enough in my opinion.

No thanks. We should be looking to bringing in a prolific goal scorer otherwise we will be struggling big time.

Think he does a fair job when he gets on the pitch.

I personally think he would be a great signing for us. Not prolific? He was the top goalscorer in the Championship when QPR went up before he broke his leg! No matter how many millions they spent on bringing in one striker after another, Mackie was always in their squad, ahead of strikers who are probably on 5 times as much as he is per week.

we will only stay up with we can have a striker who can get us regular goals, mackie isnt going to do that for us.

majority would have said the same about this season and gaining promotion.
Mackie is a hard worker and would fit into this bunch of players far better than some of the lazy journeymen mentioned (Kenwyn obviously..).

the difference between this season and next though is that its another step up. we havent got a single player scoring 10 goals this season, which leads me to believe none of the current crop would score 10 next season (excluding campbell, who probably would have scored more with a full season)
We arent going to create the amount of chances that we did this season, so having 1 or 2 players who can put away chances is vital. Look at benteke at villa as an example, almost single handidly keeping them up. While an established premier league side like stoke have struggled without a regular, permenant striker.

Not sure about that Paul.Players like whitts and Bellamy will not be marked as closely as the they were in the championship and I fancy them both to get more goals next season.I don't suppose it matters what any of us think because Malky is a massive fan the lad and if its possible I fancy it will go through.Besides with a good run in the side I'd fancy him for 12-15 goals in a season. The biggest problem is Arry probabley won't want to let him go.

I see your point but there are plenty of teams avoiding the drop with no clear goalscorer. You have a point with Villa but I just think pinning everything on signing this one guy that will keep us up is dangerous.
Wed May 01, 2013 11:51 am
true, my point isnt specifically about that one guy who will score 12-15 goals, but we will need someone, or a mixture of players capable of putting the ball in the net regulary. Someone who is a bit of a threat and can get us something when we need it.
If we go into the last few games of next season and are in the fight for relegation, having someone you can rely on to score makes a lot of difference.

Like I previously said, Mackie was the top scorer for QPR before he broke his leg and has since been in and out of the QPR team battling against players in his position on 80k a week. If we could get him for a couple of million and around 15k a week, he would be a terrific bit of business for us. He's a Malky type of player, a workhorse who won't let us down. Even if he doesn't score, can you imagine Mackie running the legs off defenders for 60-70 minutes and then we put Maynard/Campbell on to capitalise on the tiring defenders?
I also disagree we will get less chances next season. Teams won't sit back against us and we will have a lot more opportunity to hit teams on the break. With bigger pitches and more space, I don't think we will have a problem scoring goals next season. With Malky's ethic, we will outwork teams, we will be fitter than most teams and even carve a few teams open. I think we will be fine and finish around 13th-14th.

Not for me we should be setting our sights higher.
