Tan:When we play Liverpool and other teams in red we will we

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan could use Sam Hammam as Premier League 'advisor'
29 Apr 2013

Cardiff City backer Vincent Tan says he may seek advice from former Bluebirds chief Sam Hammam next season

At the player of the year do.

There were chants of ‘the blues are going up’ and ‘we are Cardiff City, we’ll always be blue’ as Tan spoke at the Supporters Club function, while there were a few boos from one corner of the big third floor room at Cardiff City Stadium.

But Tan told fans: “When we play Liverpool and other teams in red we will wear blue.”

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan says he may utilise Sam Hammam as his Premier League ‘advisor’ as he pledges a golden top-flight future for the Bluebirds.

The two men were together during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Bolton and shared in the celebrations as Mark Hudson and his team-mates lifted the Championship trophy.

Tan believes he can work closely with former Cardiff owner Hammam for the good of the club over the historical £24m loan notes debt which are owed to the Langston Corporation

And he even strongly hinted at a day-to-day role for Hammam, who stabilised little Wimbledon in the top flight prior to buying out Cardiff in 2000.

“We are still talking and trying to find a solution,” said Tan of the Langston debt.

“I’m sure we will find an amicable solution that is good for Cardiff City.

“We have some issues, but Sam Hammam attended the Bolton match as my guest and as my friend.

“He has a lot of knowledge of football clubs. He brought Wimbledon up from nothing to the Premier League.

“He can even help me and advise me on football.”

With or without Hammam, Tan maintained the Bluebirds were going into the Premier League looking to make their mark.

“We do not want to be a one-season wonder,” declared the Bluebirds owner.

“First we go up, then we move on. Top 10 one day, I hope. In the future we want to be Premier League champions.

“Malky Mackay, our manager, has a lot of things to do, We must support his work and be positive. We want the best for Cardiff City.

“We are in the Premier League and understand it is going to be difficult, but we will do everything we can to keep our place there.

“We want Cardiff City to be known as a Premier League club and there is work to be done.

“Malky Mackay, Simon Lim (chief executive) and I are ready for that. We are working together

“It is possible to keep our place in the Premier League. We don’t want to be relegated. Our target is to grow stronger.

“In the years ahead we want to reach a point where we can challenge for the top 10 – and in the future be champions of the Premier League.

“There are many things to do over future seasons, but we want the best for Cardiff City.”

Malaysian businessman Tan, who has invested £60m and promises more, joined almost 600 fans at the Cardiff City Supporters Club awards night immediately after Saturday’s match.

He spoke of the future, why he brought in the controversial rebranding and why the team will play in blue next season when they visit venues such as Old Trafford, Anfield and the Emirates.

“Don’t think I put in a lot of money to do stupid things,” said Tan.

“No. We want this club to progress and develop. We need support. Together we can make it.”

Insisting he was correct to change the shirt colours to red, Tan also assured fans the traditional bluebird emblem will always be on the club badge... but aided by the Welsh Dragon.

“Red is a colour which brings luck and the Welsh dragon brings us luck,” said Tan.

“Wales is your country and the Welsh dragon is your symbol. We don’t have a Malaysian dragon, a Chinese dragon or an Asian dragon on our badge – it is Welsh. Red in colour.

“The Bluebird is a nice bird, flying high. But in the three years I have been here the Bluebird didn’t do it.

“It was frightened by other bigger, stronger club symbols. Then the dragon came to help the Bluebird.

“It will be on our club badge – and the dragon will help the Bluebird fly even higher. The dragon wants to get on with the bluebird.”

As the Bluebirds prepare for the Premier League, Tan concluded: “Congratulations to Malky Mackay and everybody who made this possible, to the fans who supported us this season.

“To those who don’t we forgive you – come and support Cardiff City again.

“We are already planning for next season.”

Re: Tan:When we play Liverpool and other teams in red we wil

No-one wants the rebrand and just wish we could play in the Premiership with blue as our primary colour.

However, with the news that we will possibly be floated on the Singapore stock market it does make sense that we should appeal to Far East investors as much as possible and according to the man who should know best (Vincent Tan) to do that we need an all red kit (God I will hate that) and a badge based on the Welsh Dragon.

I assume this proposed float on the stock market is in some way linked to Langston and will indirectly pay off the historical debt i.e. They get a load of shares in exchange for the loan notes and sell them during or just after the float?

So for the good of the club we need to again accept the situation and simply hope that we have enough support after the float to revert back to Blue.

Wishful thinking may be but you never know……

Its not really - the away strip will be yellow. Blue will be registered as an alternative strip but , like this season , will seldom be used.

Tony

I have only just picked up your post so responded elsewhere first about this talk of a float on the Singapore stock exchange.

Would be nice for it to happen , but I have grave doubts if it will and/or be that lucrative. This is based on Manchester United`s recent attempt to do the same thing which was abandoned because of a very low level of initial interest (they instead placed some shares in the U.S.). If they can`t generate interest in this method of fundraising , how would we?

The cynic in me has a nagging feeling that this idea might just be part of the tactics to get Sam to change the Langstone debt into shares in exchange for the promise of a big payday following a float (which may never happen).

Premier League clubs are required to register a "home" playing strip and a maximum of two "Alternative" strips. Unlike the Football League the term "Away Strip" is not used, so our "Alternative" playing strips will be Blue & Yellow.

As Tony has said Blue remains as an alternative strip and that is positive.

Sorry , I didn`t phrase my post very well.

What I meant was that the yellow strip will be the alternative that will actually be used as the strip for away games wherever possible (i.e. everywhere but Norwich) unless there is a change of current intentions.

I'm no expert on foregin stock markets and I have no idea if the plan to float us is bound to work.

However, we do have 2 advantages over Manchester United and they are VT & Peter Lim who ARE definately experts. Indeed as I'm sure you are aware VT & PL have regularly used the Singapore SM to float off companies under their control.

I have no idea if VT is being genuine in his talks with Langston or indeed if it is a big con. I assume Sam would have already done his homework to see if any deal was viable and to put safe gaurds in if not.

We can all look for reds under the beds but I tend to see the best in people and take them at their word until there is evidence to the contary.

Being the absolute optimist I look for the best for CCFC and the above sounds like one heck of a plan.

VT did say in his "The Dragon is protecting the Bluebird" speech that we would wear Blue when we could. I accept that Red is the primary colour and that Blue & Yellow are Alternatives, but blue is there and that's the positive.

Another thing is that any of the registered kits can be worn at our matches, home or away, which is unlike the FL where you must use your Home kit in all but one "Home" match.

Another positive of PL rules is that you cannot introduce another playing strip "Mid Season" without written permission and then that playing strip MUST be registered the following season as one of the three playing strips.

Blue is with us and that's the positive and after this weekend I feel, like others, there is a chance to win VT around to Blue remaining our 1st Alternative strip.

You may well be right to take the optimistic approach , but a couple of points.

1) I am sure Manchester United would have used similar broker and legal expertise to VT and PL in looking at a float , so local knowledge not an obvious "edge".

2) I am not aware of VT regularly using the Singapore exchange to float companies under his control. Can you name any?

3) there is currently nothing to suggest that PL has any financial interest in CCFC

VT didn`t say we WOULD wear blue when we could. He said we MIGHT wear it "or some other colour".

I am far from sure that you are correct in saying that any of the registered kits can be worn home or away.

Rule M13 says you must register 1 home kit and up to 2 alternative kits.

Rule M22 then goes on to set out the order of priority for wearing kits and says priority 1 is the kit for the home team outfield players ,"who shall wear their home kit" (it doesn`t give an option to wear one of the registered alternative ones).
To change from Rule M22 requires the express permission , in writing , of the Premier League.

The Dragon was tiny on the old badge, do keep up at the back of class, it needed to expand into a giant to protect the bluebird from humongous enemy creatures. which is exactly what it has done, f**k the football, roll on next season for a battle royale with liverpools liverbird, can't wait

Point one - the balance of probabilities argument , whilst I fully appreciate the right to use it and may turn out to be correct , is as you say a matter of opinion , not any evidence that CCFC can do any better than MUFC in any float in Singapore. The balance of probabilities in my argument that MUFC , as the far better known football club , would do better than CCFC is similar.

Point two - this article refers to previous flotations that VT has carried out on the Malaysian Bursa and to possible future floats that he "might" do in future on the Singapore exchange. Unless I have misread it , it doesn`t show any past experience of floating on the Singapore exchange.

Point three - point taken and accepted. Others (not you)have been suggesting that Peter Lim is already involved (some even referred to Simon Lim as his son!!)

Unless you have been living on a different planet this past season, then yes, we all know that for sure.
