Football Special

Sun Apr 28, 2013 7:39 pm

Now that we've reached the promise land what's the chance of the old football special making a return. The fact we are likely to see out allocations sold out it would be great to experience the good old days of arriving by train. Who remembers walking out of Manchester Picadilly for the FA cup tie against Man City or Pompy away, great days

Oh no.... Chase or being chased through Crewe again. Too old for that malarky.

Let's have all the seating removed so they can pack us in like cattle and we can arrive at the stations with our heads sticking out of the doors and our scarves waving out of the windows to be met by hundreds of tooled up coppers with video cameras escorting us straight to the ground and back.

Just like the old days!

My favourite Football Special memory was from Pontypridd Station to Leeds FA Cup 1975 I think or maybe 74 we lost 4-1 Derek Showers scored for us. It was like a war zone on the route to Elland Road. Portsmouth in the early 80's was a good memory. And of course who can forget the trips to Stapleton Road en route to Eastville always a good laugh!
