Don't you think calling him a "robbing xxxx" might have been the reason? There is no evidence whatsoever that Sam Hammam as 'robbed' Cardiff City of anything. Indeed he (or Langston) are up to £10m out of pocket and that is before you fact in the loss of interest for the past 9 years.

You might disagree with the way he ran the club, but you can't make things up to discredit his reputation.

Sorry mate you were rightly banned.

Sam Hamman is a lovely man but he was a far bigger crook than Tan has ever been. People who slag Tan off and love Sam baffle me.

It always amazes me when fans accuse Sam Hammam of being a ‘crook’ because he ‘loaned’ money to invest in CCFC rather than use his own.

Admittedly it is long time since SH took over at CCFC in July 2000, but I have a clear recollection of his statements at the time.

He said he was putting £3.2m of his ‘own’ money into CCFC to gain 85% control and settle all historical debts but that was it, he wasn't putting anymore of his own money in.

I have to admit I didn't understand how we then spent £1m on Graham Kavanagh and £1.9m on Peter Thorne (amongst others).

However, in 2004 the answer came to light as we were £24m in debt and Sam had taken out loan notes against the club.

I understand that the fan perception was that SH was using his own money during that time but the truth is he never promised to do any such thing. Also we (the fans) didn't help as no-one questioned at the time where was it all coming from. Indeed I was one of those fans disappointed by the fact we couldn't afford to sign Julian Gray or pay Gareth Whalley's appearance bonus in 2004 and I certainly wasn’t alone.

I like to think I am fair minded and while it is true Sam was guilty of financial mismanagement he was never a crook, conman or fraudster.

Indeed if he was absolutely guilty of one thing it was of being a passionate football fan that was willing to push the boat out to achieve the ultimate goal of Premiership football.

tony
to my face when i questioned the recklessness on wages and a number of prominent board members on here were also present.
thats the reason i have always argued that sam should only get about 10 million back as he was personally responsible for the overinflated wages paid to players.
i have said many time before an instance of when a certain player was being signed up by a director for £1500 per week when sam came into the room and ended up paying that player 8k a week instead. with bonuses sam put an extra 1 million liability on the club over the 3 year contract and that was one of many players that he did it to.
now we find out that it wasent his own money and he was only loaning it on our behalf he had a duty of care to the club and its fans to get the best deals for players wages and not to play the bigger than barcelona card.
a crook no but a bare faced liar yes

Steve I don't dispute at all that Sam made huge financial mistakes and I totally believe the above as I have heard similar stories.

However, you must know that when he took over he clearly said that he was NOT putting any of his money into the club. I admit he allowed the perception that the heavy spending which followed was coming out of his pocket, but he never ever said it was his money.

As I said at the time I wondered where it was all coming from but wasn't too bothered as I loved us being able to buy quality players.

I agree Sam should get around £10m, although he now has a promotion bonus of £5m giving a total of £15m. That is a fair figure as he did manage over 2 promotions, established the academy and did a lot of the ground work for the new stadium.

Finally SH may have said something to you privately but I have only ever heard of this “debt goes with me” myth on message boards or through gossip.

In any case considering the level owed and the way he was hounded out of the club (which was unsavoury and didn’t enhance the reputations any of all those involved) the debt should be honoured.

In agree and the only thing I can (genuinely) think of is that Sam 'buttered' certain sections of support up and used them succinctly to his own advantage; whilst Vincent Tan has simply doe it his own way ;)

I'm not 'knocking' either man or those who continue to buy into the Sam Hammam legend. Each to his (or her) own on that particular front ;)

However, it is baffling how the more vocal amongst our support continue to try and discredit the man who finally delivered the dream, whilst idolising the man who (despite creating the 'modern' Cardiff city FC) almost took us to the wall :?

If (as I genuinely believe) the 'red' issue is just another reason to have a pop then they need top have a long hard look at themselves  :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Tony
do you really know that he was hounded out of the club.
it was a fact that pmg had been propping the club up for a number of months prior to sam leaving and also the council were never going to let sam near the stadium project firstly because he could not put together a viable business plan and also because they had looked at the way he had worked with merton council on managing to make wimbledon homeless and selling the land to a develpoer.
sam had to go it was as simple as that as he had run out of money and perhaps if he had been less reckless with his financial management of the players wages who knows he might have achieved his goal.
i always maintain he should have partnered paul guy on the stadium project and not capitol and regional who had no knowledge of the local economy wheras pmg had done a few major retail developments and the proof was in the pudding when they brought sufficient retail to leckwith to enable the council to approve the release of the land for the stadium.
