HOME.

Place of worship, a place of unity where I could follow my religion. Ninian Park was a shit hole but it was our shit hole. Putting up with how crap Ninian was at times was all part of the experience. Queuing for the bog and for a burger and drink. Those were the days.

A place I watched a team I supported, got entertained from time to time paid me money took me chance. In hindsight I'd have been better off saving the money then spending it on drink, women and more women, then some more drink.

Ninian could have been rebuilt, I did offer my services at one time for free to Old Sam but he didn't have sufficient backing to carry that through so used the cheap version. I obviously cannot mention that particular company and most who read wouldn't have a clue anyway.

A really shit question though Nathan, are you sure you're at a University not some CCMB herbet that's been sent to find a sky hook, long wait, etc, etc,

Ninian was "Mecca" and also a shit hole.
To be honest I was hlad when our new stadium was built. The facilities are top notch. The only thing I miss from Ninian is the standing and the atmosphere. But I think if the Ccs has standing facilities the atmosphere will grow.

As a 10 year old boy going to my 1st ever game in 1974 on a Tuesday night it was an adventure , from seeing the lit floodlights from a distance and the big stands then going up the steps into the Canton and seeing the green pitch under the lights for the very 1st time ..... then over the next 30 odd years there were many changes for better and worst . Great times following the Bluebirds through ALL divisions

A unique cauldron of everything Cardiff. An experience you only got at Ninian Park, it could not be replicated like it can now.

Well, leaving it was worse than the colour change - should have been rebuilt stand by stand.

Biggest regret is that the name Cardiff City stadium is generic tat, and dishonours the memory of Chrichton-Stewart, war hero and one of the key men in forming the club.

Seems the club will sell anything for a few lousy quid.

Ninian Park did change quite considerably during my life time. In the dark seventies it was the covered Grange End with its wooden planks which bounced up and down as fans sang their hearts out. I can also remember the huge fences surrounding the ground and the various pitch invasions and pitched battles against Spurs/Chelsea and others.

One vivid memory I have is when Wales played England in a Home International around 1975 or 76. There used to be this England fan that used to turn up to all their games dressed in a Union Jack suit and carrying a St. George’s type shield thingy. He got absolutely pelted as he did an early version of Sam Hamman's walking around the pitch. Beer cans bottles and just about everything was thrown at him, including my programme

Later in that same game the Grange End/Bob Bank sang "when the REDS go marching in" what chance that would happen now?

Later the Grange End lost its roof and was concreted over and became the 'away' end or simply not used for many years. I can also remember being on the Bob Bank when it was all standing. It wouldn't happen very often but when the Bob Bank was full it was an awesome place to be.

In the early 1990's seats were installed and to be honest the Bob Bank was never the same. When Sam Hammam came in he revamped the Grange End and I spent a few years reliving my youth standing there, even if we had to give half of it up to away fans.

For me Ninian Park followed me in every stage of my life. When I was young it was raw and hostile but mellowed with the introduction of seating as I hit lower middle age (30's to 40's)

I now consider CCS as my retirement home and TBH its construction came at just the right time.

However, the question was what did Ninian Park mean to you? Over all I have to admit it was a place where I never really expected to see success. It was dated but its one redeeming feature was it could generate the most hostile atmosphere in British football providing it was full. Unfortunately that didn't happen often enough and I thought it was profound when Ridsdale admitted not showing perspective signings around NP to avoid putting them off.

CCS has its critics but at least it has brought us into the 21st Century and I do associate that stadium with success.

So as much as I loved Ninian Park, its best by date had passed decades ago and its memory is firmly placed foundly in my past.

I laughed there, I cried there, I got drunk there, I meet my best friends there. I decided that I was marry my wife there.
It gave me memories that I will never forget; Man City and Leeds in the cup, Wayne fereday's screamer against the Jacks, pitch invasion against Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe. Plus the bad time; 2-7 against Cambridge, losing to Bath in the Cup and many, many more.
It was my place of worship, it's what made going to school/work worth it to walk through the turnstiles everything Saturday.

The rust, the toilets, the crappy bar area, getting soaked on the front of the Bob bank, it's what made Ninian Ninian and I fooking loved it!

And yes, I'd go back there tomorrow in a heart beat!

It is somewhere that I have some fond memories but like all things in life you dont dwell on it forever, you move on.

Ninian Park meant to me what Rome means to the Catholic's

Ninian Park during the 70's was probably the most intimidating ground I've ever been in. I'm not talking the Swans V Cardiff games in the late 70's either. They were small fry. I'm talking Man Utd, Tottenham and the Wales games in 76 against England and Yugoslavia where 40000 people were 'sieg heiling' it to East German referee Rudi Gloeckner! A very very special place!

oh yes very intimidating 64jack i would have hated to be an away fan visiting during those times .

best times at ninian park for me was the promotion years of 1983 and 1987/88 seasons .

The best area of the ground was the bob bank for me . you could pay cash on the turnstyles back in them days too !
