ITS NOW THE ONLY TIME THIS HAS GONE OUTSIDE ENGLAND

Thu Apr 25, 2013 11:28 am

Our history shows that we are the only team to take the FA Cup out of England. We will this weekend set another record, by taking the Football League Trophy (its the old First Division Champions Trophy) out of England for the first time ever, so we now have the DOUBLE!!!

Indeed we will...and it got me thinking:

I don't give too much of a toss for any team outside Cardiff City FC but I have to admit this is an historic year for Welsh football and all three of the top teams in Wales will have come out of this season with huge kudos and credit...plus, of course, we must spare a thought for Swansea winning the Cadbury Cup too :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Top of the tree (and this is not bias) HAS to be Cardiff's promotion AS CHAMPIONS to the Premier League; the rewards for which make THIS seasons achievement the RICHEST promotion in history. Outstanding :ayatollah:

Admiration has to go to Wrexham for their Wembley win and also for a great season in the Conference, which may yet result in a happy return to the Football League after so many years in the doldrums :ayatollah:

Newport County also have had a year to remember and , like Wrexham, might still achieve the dream of a return to the Football League after even more heartbreak than their cousins from North Wales :ayatollah:

What a Play-off Final that would be (Wrexham vs Newport) knowing that Wales would have an additional member back in the Football League :ayatollah: Superb (although I have to admit my personal preference would be for a Newport win, as I used to watch them years ago whenever City were away and IMHO theirs would be the biggest journey) :ayatollah:

Oh yes, of course, how can we forget how well Swansea did to beat their lower division opposition in the Cadbury Cup at Wembely; which was (if I am to be correct) their last win of the season so far :)

Well done Wales but most of all:

WELL DONE CARDIFF CITY FC :ayatollah: :notworthy:  :ayatollah:

Winning the Football League Championship is a fantastic achievement. We came within a penalty kick of winning it in 1924 so 89 years later we have set the record straight.

You can't argue that Swansea did well winning the League Cup but it is by far the junior competition. The Football League dates from 1888 and until 2013 it had never had a Welsh club as Champions.

In contrast the League Cup was first contested in the 1960-61 season and again not until 2013 did it have a Welsh winner (although we all know we had a moral win in 2012).

The prize money for winning the League Cup is just £100,000 + European football. The actual prize for winning the FLC is £50,000 although there is an additional £120m guaranteed over 4 years for those being promoted.

Finally it takes 7 games to win the League Cup and often the winners would have beaten teams from lower leagues or reserve teams from Premiership sides as the competition is well down the priorities of most managers.

To win the FLC you have to play 46 gruelling games in one of the hardest leagues in the world.

Swansea have wins over:
Liverpool (x2) (1 away)
Arsenal x2 (1 away)
Chelsea (away)
Man City

And a home draw over Man U during their time in the Prem

This while winning the League Cup and a net transfer profit of about £3million, while losing their manager and two integral players.

The Swans achievement is one of the biggest in recent "smaller" club history (no disrespect meant by "Smaller" club)

I'm really proud of what Cardiff have achieved this year. To take that trophy outside of England after so many famous people (Clough, Shankley, Speed) have held it is massive. But to talk down what Swansea have done is stupid.

Read my post: You didn't play Chelsea and Liverpool at WEMBLEY, you feckin clown

As for your second point? Erm, we beat what was in front of us and that, my dodgy friend, is what better than 23 other sides in our league managed to do ;)

The UNDENIABLE FACT is that when the accolades are handed out at the end of a great year for Wales, it will be CARDIFF CITY FC (Wales' capital and Premier team) that stand on the top step with the Gold Medallion around their necks ;) :ayatollah:

Your team, of course, had their moment in the sun (or was it The Sun? :laughing6: ) and had to retreat quickly before the chocolate melted

Now come back with something fresh and original    :ayatollah:
