Its A Good Thing Were Up!

Tue Apr 23, 2013 11:51 am

Of the three sides that came down from the Prem only Bolton has been competitive. Blackburn and Wolves have been struggling just to stay In this division and could still fail. Im thinking that if we had failed and we had to fight against the likes of QPR, Wigan, Reading or Villa next season, and some of the more buoyant and strengthened sides in the Championship next year, it could have been a much harder proposition.

Im not knocking what we have achieved I just think it could have been a really good thing we did it when we did.We will see how the Championship pans out next year. Now were in the Prem lets just make sure we stay there.

Over the past 4 years of the 12 clubs relegated from the PL so far only 3 have won promotion back. Newcastle Utd & WBA returned automatically and West Ham through the playoffs. This season Hull look like they will return, at the 3rd attempt, and Bolton may well achieve get back via the playoffs.

But Middlesbrough, Portsmouth, Burnley, Birmingham, Blackpool, Blackburn and Wolves will at best stay in the Championship. Two may yet drop through the trap door into League one this season.

I see no reason to believe that given recent history for relegated clubs that the 3 from this season would dominate next seasons Championship. In fact given the strength of our squad now if we had to I could see us giving it another good go next season, and it would be those relegated clubs looking at us and a few others and really not fancying the prospect.

Thankfully because of the fantastic season we don't have to worry about it, and that is the best thing of all.
