TAN: NOT SIGNING SUPERSTARS AND MAY SELL CLUB!

Tue Apr 23, 2013 8:56 am

The Malaysian owner of newly promoted Cardiff City said he planned to open his wallet to acquire new forwards and defenders as the club eyes a successful English Premier League run.

Billionaire Vincent Tan also said he would consider selling the Welsh club if a big enough offer came in but that he was focused for now on strengthening the team.

"I think unless there is an offer too big to refuse, my plan is to stay on for a long time but of course we need to stay on in the Premier League," he told reporters in the Malaysian capital.

The Welsh club will return to the English top flight for the first time in 51 years after they drew 0-0 at home to Charlton Athletic last week to guarantee promotion from England's second tier.

After promotion was confirmed, Tan said the club would spend up to £25 million ($38.2 million) on new talent but said Tuesday that Cardiff would not be looking for superstars.

"We can't afford superstar players for the time being," he said.

Tan has various interests in financial services, hotels, property and gaming. Forbes magazine estimates his net worth at $1.3 billion.

Cardiff fans were outraged last year when the blue home jerseys that earned the club the nickname the "Bluebirds" were changed to red, with Tan saying red was "luckier".

Tan is ethnic Chinese, among whom red is traditionally viewed as bringing good fortune.

Surely that's the case for anything?

Lets not kid ourselves, he's here to make money. If someone offers him more than what he's invested he may well take the money and run. Non story IMO.

What a misleading headline.

If someone offers me double the value of my house I'd sell it too.

Beginning to regret joining up here. Why do city fans have to have a go at others for having an opinion. Grow up FFS.

Where did I say I was convinced? Trying to twist things again are you not Gwyn.

It would please me if someone replaced him and returned us to our traditional colours.

Do you not want a return to our real identity ASAP? At this rate i'm wondering why you didn't support a red outfit sooner.

So you were prepared to risk the club's whole existence on a hunch, I thought you must have at least some proof for something as risky as that.

My main concern was to try and ensure the club I love stayed in business and preserved our tradition, rather than went out of business over a colour.
The sooner we back in blue the better , but never at the risk of losing out club. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Well, it appears to me that VT is simply stating that IF (and a very big IF) someone wanted to come in and plough £100m plus into the club he would 'consider' it. However, the clearer indcation is that he will stay and help build a stable Premiership club over the next few years and I am all for that (better the productive Devil you know, sometimes) ;) :ayatollah:

I also note the 'lucky red' comment at the bottom and you have to admit (like it or not) that if you are superstitious then the red has certainly been more luck in 2 years than the blue was in 50+ years ;)

Just an observation ;) :ayatollah:

Exactly. I'm not planning on selling my house any time soon, but if someone came knocking at the door out of the blue offering me a very large price for it, I would definitely have to 'consider' it. VT is saying exactly the same thing. Thats the way the world works. :ayatollah:

Mate, some do it 'just for fun' and it should be seen as such. Others do it because they have nothing else in life to do except be bitter towards anything positive both at Cardiff City FC and in life :(

The secret is working out which is which treating the latter with the contempt they deserve ;) :ayatollah:

Just do your own thing :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

What risk? Do you really believe Tan would have up roots and walked after ploughing in £40 million when there was a chance of recouping that plus more.

And you think he's the type of chap to lose face and give into fan pressure and simply carry on as if nothing happened and try and do his best for us, come on keep it real FFS.

If there ever was a misleading title.. Then this is it.

Re: TAN: NOT SIGNING SUPERSTARS AND MAY SELL CLUB!

I think he is the multi millionaire businessman, who would sell his own Granny if the offer's big enough... Profit is all that matters to him, if he cant get it here, he'll leave and get it somewhere else...
Plus a football club could be a prestige-object in his vitae...

Like Ive said in another post he has probably had offers already with people hoping that he'd do similar to the QPR owners when they got promoted and cash in. Whether he would or not is another matter through
