Kim Bo-Kyung says he's ready for the Premier League.
New Cardiff City sensation Kim Bo-kyung has declared he is in the Cardiff City team for keeps and ready to make his mark in the Premier League.

Malky Mackay’s capture from South Korea has had to bide his time since arriving in Wales eight months ago, adapting to the different culture and a new style of football in the physically demanding Championship.

But having been given his head on the field of play in recent matches by Mackay, Kim has grabbed the opportunity with two hands.

His eye-catching displays have made him a huge hit with Bluebirds fans and Kim is determined to keep that going when he takes on Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Co at the top level next season.

Off the field he also underlined the strides he is making by conducting his first English language interview as he celebrated Cardiff’s title triumph.

The man who signed for £2m transfer from Cerezo Osaka and has been combining playing duties with studies in English at Cardiff and the Vale College.

Interpreter Hee-Woong Kim, known as Ian around the club, has always been close by this season to help Kimbo settle in, during interviews, in the dressing room and also team meetings.

But, with Kimbo’s spoken English improving by the day, the interpreter stood back this time and let Kim speak for himself.

City’s man of the match in the title decider at Turf Moor beamed: “Championship football is high tempo and there are quality players, but the Premier League is even better. I can’t wait to play in it.

“We are a strong group and we will be confident in each other.

“I have learned such a lot since I joined Cardiff.

“There have been many practical things in terms of playing, while I have improved in tracking back against opposing players and helping the team to defend.

“I have to improve even more. I will keep listening and taking it in.

“I am enjoying my time in Wales, I enjoy the city of Cardiff.

“I am proud to play for a Cardiff team who have won the title.

“I’ve liked playing Championship football and it will be a happy experience to play in the Premier. That’s the same for every player here.”

Kim has made it clear winning the title with Cardiff means as much to him as playing for South Korea and earning an Olympic medal.

He has committed to the Bluebirds until 2015, choosing to sign for the Championship club in the hope they would take him to the Premier

He was spot on – and his decision to turn down Celtic and Borussia Dortmund was proven right.

“The Championship is far different from Japan’s JLeague where I was playing before and I hope to do well at Premier level,” he continued.

Kim won’t have far to go for advice. Close friend Ki Sung-Yueng plays for Swansea City and the two Korean internationals often meet for a chat.

Kim is also mates with Sunderland’s Ji Dong-Won, currently on loan at FC Augsburg, and Ji-Sung Park at Queens Park Rangers.

They can tell him about the challenge he faces at Premier level.

“I am happy because we played well as a team at Burnley and over the season,” Kim continued.

“I thought I played well on Saturday and we might have won, but that last minute goal for Burnley put us under pressure.

“We are strong as a group, though, and came through the test.

“We are champions and that is good. I adore playing for Cardiff. I want to play in every game. I want to score in every match.

There is still unfinished business, though for Kim as he and his Bluebirds team-mates prepare for Saturday’s clash against Bolton in front of a sell-out 26,000 crowd.

After the final whistle they will collect the championship trophy.

And Kim said: “That’s still an important game.

“I want to play, I want to score and help Cardiff win that one too.”

Think he may have been forced into saying this! Even though he's a cracking player he would have obviously preferred to play in a champions league semi against madrid, rather than charlton away etc

And if he had signed for Dortmund, do you think he would be playing in the semi?

My reading of what he is saying is that he has been allowed to progress at the appropriate rate under Malky and has now had substantial game time as well - I suspect he believes that is right for his career advancement.

It just seems a very oddly negative comment to make on your first day posting and has all the hallmarks of a Jack poster whose now been banned on here I believe - if I'm wrong, then I apologise - I shall however look at your posts with interest, just in case I need to start using that "ignore" button again

Kimbo will boss it next season, trust! :ayatollah:

Re: I turned down Celtic & Borussia Dortmund was proven righ

Kim was right.

At Borussia he'd struggle to get in the team and they are the underdogs to win the CL and have struggled massively in the league behind a dominant Bayern. I love the Bundesliga and watch it more than the Prem and Bayern have been on a path of destruction this season.

At Celtic he'd play in Europe and possibly get a beating but he'd win the SPL, wow.

Here he has made history, is idolised, is the forefront of our advertising campaigns in Asia, has won promotion with us, has won the Championship which is much bigger than the SPL to anyone outside of Scotland and is now looking forward to playing Premier League football next season against some of the best teams in the world where his talent will be showcased every single game in Asia, America as NBC have the rights to broadcast every game and in Europe.

Whether he made the decision or his agent did you have to say they made a brilliant decision. He will go on to a top team eventually anyway but he'll always be able to look back on making history with us. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
