How far we have come compared to Cambridge

Mon Apr 22, 2013 3:56 pm

I was just pondering over reaching for what a lot of :old: my age has been our ultimate dream and I was thinking about never having to hopefully face Cambridge again.
It was 19 years ago this month I sat in block C with steve borley(what a story for him) and watched us lose 7-2 to Cambridge. I also attended the match up there where we had 3 players sent off and hung on for a 0-0 draw. I might need correcting here but I'm sure it was Cambridge home when a goal ward header was tipped over the bar by a Cambridge defender and I think Barry knight gave us a corner.
When you look at the difference between the two clubs now its frightening to think we could have ended up following the same path.
Feck me I'm looking forward to Saturday :ayatollah:

That was a New Years Day game. Remember it well because it was the opening of the Family Stand (underneath the Grandstand), it was a shit game, and one of the Maidstone players kicked the ball into the side of my face

Went there when it was 0-0 and we had three players sent off, it was madness at the final whistle by the fans and burrows comming over to us all, how we defended for nearly all of the 2nd half with 8 men i never know, i remember that big black guy trevor benjamin milking a tackle and getting somebody sent off i think it was craig middleton but not sure 100%, i also remember our right back at the time winston faerber running the whole lengh of the pitch with the ball while the away enmd was screeming hold it up in the corner but he crossed it in for nobody as the other seven players we had was on are goal line blocking shots more or less. I remember it well because it was my 1st proper season of watching away games most weeks as a youngster, who would have thought steve how things have changed in the years gone by, it was just a dream back then even if it was more of a crack :ayatollah:
They had some guy called martin butler upfront back then he was tip top in our league scoring 1-2 every week anybody remember him :D
