What the fans had to say in todays Echo '
' Paul Corkrey '
from Merthyr, a season ticket holder for more than 20 years and former chairman of the Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust, said: “As wonderful as the scenes were last week when thousands ran onto the field to celebrate promotion, that cannot happen again. The safety of fans and players is imperative and so I hope all supporters hear that message.
“In terms of this summer, I think Malky will do what he’s built a reputation for doing. He won’t look to buy five or six million pound players he’ll find hard-working people ready to give their all. I’m optimistic that we’ll comfortably stay in the Premier League next year, I can’t see us failing to finish above three other teams.”
' Annis Abraham '
who runs cardiffcityforum.co.uk, added: “Having spoken to the club this week the message I keep hearing is that they want to do something special to celebrate our success. It’s going to be a special day.
“But I also want to reiterate that after the Bolton game, fans must not step onto the pitch. The club has made assurances to the league and sponsors npower and it will hurt our reputation and the club itself if we don’t respect that.
“The game at Burnley on Saturday was one of my most memorable in 41-years supporting Cardiff City because it was the hardcore away faithful, the majority of which wear blue.”
Mr Abraham, an outspoken critic of City’s Malaysian owner Vincent Tan’s rebranding of the club’s badge and colours, added: “I’m afraid I will never forgive Vincent Tan for re-branding the club and I only hope and pray that he at least keeps the blue away kit.
“After four decades I could have walked away from this club after what he had done, but I haven’t because I have waited so long for this moment.
“The thing that pleased me the most this week was hearing the fans sing ‘the blues are going up’. I just hope the next generation of fans also sing about us as the blues.”
' Echo columnist Carl Curtis '
said: “We’ve basically been told by the club not to stay in Hull overnight because there’s going to be a party on the Sunday and that it is going to be a bit spectacular, so it sounds like the perfect end to the perfect season and I cannot wait.
“I honestly think that this club could become as big as people’s wildest imagini. We have the investment, the infrastructure and the manager in place to keep on achieving.
“Last May I was at a meeting when the re-branding plans were first suggested to us. At that point I thought my world was ending, I thought the club was on death’s door. In fairness, Vincent Tan will claim that it is his investment that has won us this promotion and he is perfectly entitled to say that.
“There are suggestions that his strong beliefs have mellowed as have our opinions of him. We can’t ignore the fact that the club needed and still needs investment. But for me I just hope the Bluebird remains a part of the club.”
