Malky To Everton?

Mon Apr 22, 2013 8:56 am

There has been reports over the course of the weekend that should David Moyes leave Everton at the end of the season, Cardiff boss Malky Mackay could be one potential replacement as manager at Goodison Park.

After recently guiding Cardiff City to promotion to the Premier League, Mackay is now being tipped to step up a level and take the helm at one of the EPL’s more established sides. According to both The Mirror and The Daily Mail this weekend, Everton could be one of those clubs.

David Moyes has stalled on a decision regarding his future at Everton and speculation continues to surround the Scot. Moyes has been at Goodison for well over a decade and is highly regarded in the footballing world for his efforts at the club during his tenure. However, Moyes could well leave the Toffees at the end of the current campaign and has been linked with jobs both in England and abroad.

Moyes’ decision about his future is going to be massive for the club and us the fans and of course we will then have to find a replacement. Malky Mackay is the first and will no doubt not be the only name to be linked with the Goodison Park hot seat but would our fans be happy if he was installed at the helm? When you think off the top of your head ‘who would I want to replace Moyes’ how many current managers jump out to you?

If Moyes does go, we will be linked with the likes of Mark Hughes and people of the same ilk, but in reality, surely we should target someone like Mackay; a younger, ambitious, lesser known manager on his way up in the game. Remember when we appointed Moyes? He was at Preston and relatively unknown, and now look at him. Michael Laudrup at Swansea is another example, he plays good football, has done well in his first season in England and won silverware with the Swans. Pocchetino at Southampton too, when he took over they were battling relegation and were just three points clear, now they are comfortably a top half team. Young managers on the rise.

Whoever does replace Moyes, be it this summer, or whenever, they will have big shoes to fill and as previously stated, it will be a massive moment for Everton if and when Moyes does finally leave. The press are already lining up his successor and Mackay will surely be the first of many managers that are linked with the Goodison gaffer’s job.
