Rugby still number 1 sport?

Sun Apr 21, 2013 9:59 pm

Even though we us bluebirds are up in the prem, aswell as those Jack bastards, I'm still pondering if our beautiful game of footy will become wales' number 1 sport or will those egg chasers still entice those 80 thousand boozed up idiots in November and January?

No i am not Jeremy Paxman or whoever Roathy is, i cant believe your treating me with such disrespect! A 69 year old man whos been working with youngsters at cardiff for 51 years and watched boys like Ledley, Ramsey, Matthews come through the ranks! And you think you can brandish cardiff city as 'we' because youve been down to watch Cardiff a few times a year for 10 years , you shouldnt even consider yourself a fan

How can you compare a club side to a national side ?

Are Crystal Palace going to get more fans than the English national Rugby team?
The answer you're looking for is, no. ;)

Football is already the number one sport in england so the comparison doesnt have to be made

Rugby hasn't been number 1 for years. Even though they won't admit that. Do the maths though. Far more people paid to watch Cardiff and Swansea than all the rugby matches played in Wales put together. Add up the regions games with their mear 2-3000 per game plus the few 70,000 they get in the 6 nations then compare that to the gates at Cardiff and Swansea.

We take the piss out of the gates the Jacks get but to be fair the best supported rugby region would need to play at least 7 games just to match one Jacks game. The figures don't lie.

Back in the day I can remember going to watch Ponty v Neath in the Swalec cup final at the old National stadium and you couldn't get a ticket for love nor money. Things have changed since then though. Now they could play their cup final in my back garden.

Welsh rugby though continue to live off the 6 nations telling themselves they are well supported because of the gates they get. Fact is though, the Mill Stad would sell out a 6 nations match even if Wales wasn't playing. Try moving Scotland v England there for the first game! Fact is it would sell out. That's because the 6 nations is more of a festival than anything else.

It is sad though that they've let their support slip to near nothing. But even now they are blaming football for their poor gates. Truth is if Welsh football disappeared of the face of the earth, they would still have crap gates. And that's the bit the likes of Mike Hall doesn't get. Their biggest problem is they spend most of their time with their heads up their own backsides thinking they are right all the time. They'll still be thinking they are right when the sport disappears all together, they'll just think of something else to blame rather than take responsibility for their own lack of actions. the WRU are having a pop at the regions and the regions seems to be having a pop at everyone.

Even now after winning the 6 nations rather than use that to build, they are hell bent on destroying themselves. They are very much now arguing over who owns the deckchairs on the Titanic. They are sinking fast in their own negativity.
