The celebrations were a far cry from the frustration Conway once felt at the club.

“The manager (Mackay) said we deserve it and to remember days like this as a lot of people go through their careers without winning anything.

Craig Conway, the man who wanted to leave Cardiff City earlier this season, could barely contain his joy and pride after his goal against Burnley sealed the Championship title.

Conway struck just before the half-hour mark to put the Bluebirds 1-0 up at Turf Moor and although the hosts grabbed a late equaliser it was not enough to deny City the crown.

The celebrations were a far cry from the frustration Conway once felt at the club.

“It feels great to win it with two games left,” beamed the Scottish international.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling.”

Irvine-born Conway, 27, headed south from Dundee United to join Malky Mackay’s Bluebirds revolution two years ago – and then thought about leaving when he struggled to break into the team earlier this season.

“I’m thrilled to have stayed and had this experience,” he said.

“It was great to make sure of promotion at home and now we have the title.

“We have earned a place at Premier level and went out as a group after the match against Charlton. But we still knew what had to be done and the job wasn’t finished.

“It was important we celebrated promotion, but then quickly refocused because we all wanted to go on and win the League. I’d delighted we’ve now done that.

“It’s unbelievable. It’s been a long season but it’s great to win it with two games to spare.

“The manager (Mackay) said we deserve it and to remember days like this as a lot of people go through their careers without winning anything.

“We are lucky enough to be part of it. It means so much to everyone.”

Mackay has described Conway as ‘magnificent’ this season and has been delighted with the way he reacted when his transfer request was turned down.

He has now made 64 appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring seven goals, while he is hoping to make the 200th League start this season.

Conway is on 198 and would love to hit that mark by playing against Bolton Wanderers at home next Saturday and then Hull away in the final match of their season.

“Craig had to bide his time earlier this season, but that’s what a squad is for,” said Mackay. “His attitude has been spot on throughout.”

Conway was Mackay’s first signing when he became Cardiff manager two years ago, making the move from Dundee United to South Wales on a free transfer.

Rangers were keen to sign him and he had talks with the Glasgow club, but opted for a move to Cardiff.

He has suffered setbacks, including an ankle injury at the end of last season which kept him out of the play-off clashes with West Ham,.

But Conway reported back early for pre-season and has been fitter than ever this season.

“The aim from the most moment I arrived was automatic promotion and we’ve done it,” says Conway. “We have stayed strong and tight as a group to earn a place in the Premier League next season.”

Conway scored twice for Dundee United in their Scottish Cup final win against Ross County in 2010 and says: “Winning the title with Cardiff is special.”

It can also sum up how some of us feel about the rebrand.

Also nice to see that he scored the goal to win the title yesterday at 27 minutes!

Hes the type of player who would be good to put on in the second half in Premier League games for some energy to see the game out and keep pressing from high up the pitch to take pressure off the defence. :ayatollah:
