Scary conversation..

Sun Apr 21, 2013 9:33 am

During HalfTime yesterday me and Paul were talking about Malky and Paul said
"I Just Hope can keep him"
I said "I only think 3 jobs that would tempt Malky. Celtic,Scotland and EVERTON".

Wake up this morning and its on the Web/Papers and other media outlets...

Get used to it, it's a pain in the arse but just part of being in the Premier League. If a couple of your players put in a couple of decent performances then the papers will be linking them with all the top teams. If your manager is doing a good job then he'll be linked with every available job, it gets a bit tiring.

The majority of the time, it's just the papers filling a bit of space.

On a seperate note, I'd be very surprised if any manager left the opportunity to manage in the Prem to join the SPL? The Scotland job has just been filled, and Everton aren't in great health if Moyes leaves... Don't think you've got anything to worry about for now.

Fair points but Celtic is always a huge draw, as much as anything for the romance involved if you've been brought up in that area. Everton are an established PL side and have some great players, albeit some having racked up a few years. It's probably a big a current PL club as MM could hope for at this stage of his career.

As you know football is a fickle sport, today your the hero, tomorrow the villain, so it makes sense to grab opportunities when they arise.

Having said all that I think he will stay, but he may yet have some difficult decisions to make! :malky:

I'll disagree on the Celtic job, but that's just my opinion. Everton? Possibly, but there are huge (and unjustified) expectations there as Moyes has done a hell of a job on a tight budget.

Take Brendan Rodgers as an example, I understand that the Liverpool job was too big for him to turn down, but he already needs a massive start to next season as the vultures are already circling. He took over a team that made it to 2 cup finals, won one of them and qualified for Europe, and he has in my opinion, taken them backwards. If he had stayed here and we finished in 17th place, that would've been seen as a success! If Malky Mackay can keep you up next season then his stock will soar, and I think he will stick around to have a crack at this league at Cardiff. Walking before you run and all that!

Just occurred to me though, not a bad little production line of managers coming out of Watford eh?

Yeah it seems MM and Rodgers are still good friends and no doubt MM learnt a lot from him.

I can see you points and history is littered with managers taking the wrong job. I guess it's about 'fit' as much as anything - some managers just seem to suit certain clubs but not others. But then clubs aren't slow to sack managers so I don't blame any of them for taking big jobs when they can. The danger is course if if you fail, often you slide down the leagues if you can be a job at all.

Celtic guaranteed titles, cups and CL football, plus the allure of the Scottish thing. Football is rubbish up there but it's an easy life most of the time!

You're right about expectations, but then it depends how ambitious you are and your self belief. In sure Rodgers thinks he can turn Liverpool around but perhaps felt he had taken you as far as he could. As usual, only time will tell but I suspect whatever happens he will always get opportunities should he depart his current post.
