Cardiff plan surprise move for Aaron Ramsey.

Sun Apr 21, 2013 12:17 am

Premier League new boys Cardiff will make an audacious bid to bring back Aaron Ramsey.

And club owner Vincent Tan has let it be known that he is willing to pay out £60,000 a week to Arsenal midfielder Ramsey – or any other marquee signings as he plans to spend big in the top flight.

Ramsey, 22, only signed a new five-year deal at the Emirates earlier this season, but his form has been patchy and the Gunners could be tempted to cash in if the price is right.

The Wales international began his career at Cardiff, appearing in the 2008 FA Cup Final as a teenager before switching to Arsenal that summer.

Cardiff would have to pay substantially more than the £4.8million they received for Ramsey – but that will not be a problem for Tan who has told staff he will pay top dollar to ensure Premier League survival next season.

Another name on Cardiff’s wishlist is QPR’s Jamie Mackie for around £2m.

Bluebirds manager Malky Mackay is a huge fan of the forward’s work ethic and he believes the 27-year-old Scotland international would be a great addition to the squad in the Premier League.

All rumours and a bit early.

If QPR go down he should go in for Mackie.. He can do a great job.

I'd love him to return but 60k a week is too much for one player - didn't we all say that we don't want to go down the route that QPR have gone down? And Mackie is a tad overrated, a very good Championship player but a bit like Chopra in that he probably won't ever cut it at the top level.

We should go for young and hungry Championship players, players like Tom Ince and John Brayford. That is the route Norwich took, and the one I believe we should take.

Like you I would love him to return but, it also says we would have to pay substantially more than 4.8 Million? If that is the case I rather use the 25 Million more wisely than that....

He's starting for Arsenal, honestly can't see him throwing away Champions league football at this stage in his career, even if he dropped to the bench.

He would cost £10m at least I'd say. If joe allen went for £15m then Ramsey won't be far behind. Is it worth spending nearly half our budget on him?

This really isn't the way to go about things . Everyone initially seemed wary of doing a QPR and have since heard names like Ramsey and Kalou being bandied about.

Personally feel he's a rung above Joe Allen but not much between the two, Allens price was hugely inflated to the credit of the Jacks. Kalou would be a decent signing but we need to be looking to young hungry players just like Southampton have done. I'd have a look at a few Palace players and I like the look of Chris Wood.

Massive pressure on Malky to spend money, which is needed but i'd rather have 5 players costing 15M than one player costing 15M.

I believe in our midfield for next season, kimbo can be a better player than Ramsey imo

I personally would Love Ramsey to return.

With all of the rebrand type changes.......I think its important to get a core of a few good welsh/local/Cardiff players in our team

I'd go all out to get Ramsey back, and Ledley and Matthews. With Bellers, that would make 4 good quality local players in our main squad (even if Matthews is a jack!!)

But, 60k should not be considered for any player IMO. 40k max should be what we pay our top players this season.

Don't agree, no player should be in the team by virtue of them being from Cardiff or Wales. In the lower leagues this is important but we need quality in the premiership. The players you mentioned are quality though.

I agree with that. I should have put squad instead of team.

I was only saying last night that the maximum wage we should pay ANY player next season is 40K if we start going down the route of paying 60 - 70K to certain players then we are only going to breed resentment in the squad. However personally I don't think Malky will allow that and he will go for players who fit into his system which will be hungry players who have the right team ethic :old: :ayatollah: :malky:

Can't see Rambo coming back tbh. It's take Jonathan Williams and Mackie in a heartbeat though. Two quality players that we could get for the price of the fee Rambo would command.

Ramsey's getting games at the moment but with Wenger set to actually splash the cash this year I wouldn't be surprised to see him drop down the pecking order. If that's the case I can see a loan move potentially happening, but I can't see Arsenal letting him go on the cheap. He's got a long term contract and he's still very young. He'll be £15m+ easily.

I'd take Mackie, top player!

Would love to have Ramsey here but not at £60k a week. There are plenty of good players in the Championship who are Premiership standard. They may cost a few million in transfer fees but would settle for half of what Ramsey is on per week. Also there must be loads of players in Europe who would be better value for money than many of the established Prem players. Asia too. Look at Kimbo. A snip at just over £2m and he will be perfect in the Premier League. Great technical skills, keeps the ball under pressure and finds men with his passes. I hope we are sensible in the transfer market and don't do a QPR. :ayatollah:

I don't think its a 'surprise' at all if the club were enquiring

Re: Cardiff plan surprise move for Aaron Ramsey.

Arsenal say they are flashing the cash this summer so they may want to move Aaron on, but that will prove to be difficult. £4 million a year in salary for a 3 year contract is effectively £12 million for a club that has a 50% chance of being relegated in those 3 years.

Sorry young Aaron is no longer in our league. Jamie Mackie on the other hand is as nailed on as Leon Barnett in my opinion to be a bluebird next season.

Wenger clearly wants Ramsey to be part of his team, unless they buy 2 or 3 new CMs I don't see him going anywhere.
