how to stay up next season

My take on how to stay up next season
Out of the 38 games we play we need to win 12games and draw 6 games

12wins =36 points
6 draws = 6points
Total= 42points would be enough to stay up
Lets break it down a bit
Of the 12 wins lets say 8 home wins and 4 away wins
Of the 6 draws lets say 4 home draws and 2 away draws
Imo we should aim to beat the 2 teams that come up with us home and away
We should aim to beat the teams that were involved in this years relegation scrap probably
Aston villa, sunderland, norwich, stoke, southampton, newcastle, fulham,,
If we could beat 6 of those 7 at home and draw with the other one
Win 2 games away from those 7 and draw away at 4 of them that would do it :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :malky:
That would also leave us the possibility of a couple of upset results going in our favour against higher ranked teams
This would even allow us to lose 20 games throughout the season
Looking at it this way we could have a poor spell without getting on the players backs or calling for management changes to quickly in malky and thevplayers ( who ever they are ) we must trust and fully support
Lets all enjoy next season and see where it leads to we have waited too long to get to the top tier and not to enjoy it would be a crying shame :ayatollah:

What the f**k are you going on about? You come up with some theory of how to stay up which is, shock horror, by beating so called easier teams mainly at home, and think its as simple as that. I wonder why other teams haven't thought of it?

It's not being negative, it's just that you can't just pick and choose what games you win.

As for the opinion bollocks, you've confused me with someone else (chuckles?) as where have I said all that tosh?

Play the mini league (i.e. the teams around your position). Don't worry about the matches against the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, anything you pick up from them is a bonus...

One last point, when you have a dodgy run (It usually happens at some point, 4 or 5 games without a win), get behind the team and the manager. You've had years of challenging at the top of the championship, so you're probably used to winning a lot more than you lose. That might not be the case next season, so the expectation levels need to be adjusted. Let's say Man Utd put four or five goals past you? Don't worry about it, it's the matches against the teams around you next season that count.

That might not be enough to stay up though. We need to look at it as we go on in the season.

Sorry mate. But your not even close! No wonder Carpe diem had a pop! :laughing6: Let me give you some examples ;)
Our first season in the top flight we gained 47 points. 10 against the bottom 4 and 7 against the top 4! Over half our points (25) were won against the top half teams compared to 22 against the bottom. The teams who finished immediately above us (Liverpool 8th, Fulham 9th and West Brom 10th) we took 16 out of 18 points compared to just one point from the teams that came up with us. There are no 'bonus' points from gaining them against the top teams, you have to or you will go down. Likewise, you have to accept you will drop points against the lower/newly promoted clubs! Dont over analyse things, basically you will have to go out and scrap for every point in every game. Whether it be against Hull or Man Utd! ;)
