Michael Laudrup is ready for a Premier League battle royale with Cardiff City next season and insists the Bluebirds’ promotion will spur Swansea City to reach even greater heights.

The Swans boss reckons the two big Welsh rivals are spurring one another to success ... and will each want to be Wales’ top dogs in 2013-14.

Laudrup says Cardiff have an even greater motivation to succeed in the top flight after they witnessed the Swans stabilise at that level and win the League Cup this season.

And he admits the Bluebirds’ rise to the top table of English football will also help drive the Swans on to further success next season.

“When you see a neighbour has done well, you want to do even better,” said Laudrup.

“I think it’s good because that competition within the competition is good – good for Cardiff, good for Swansea and good for the Premier League.

“I don’t think I’m the one to be asked what it fully means for Welsh football because I’m a newcomer and have only been here eight months.

“But even from the outside you can still see this is a great achievement for a small country like Wales to have two teams in one of biggest leagues in the world.”

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan has already set his stall out for the Bluebirds’ Premier League challenge by revealing he will hand manager Mackay £25m for summer strengthening.

It is a sharp contrast to Swansea’s initial steps into the top level, when they spent only £10m for their first crack at the Premier League.

The Swans shone under Brendan Rodgers and have taken things to even greater heights under Laudrup as they target a top-10 finish in the next few weeks.

They achieved that success against a backdrop of pundits widely tipping Swansea for relegation, something Laudrup reckons Cardiff will also have to come to terms with.

Laudrup said: “I don’t know the plans they have. I read the other day their owner said something about spending money. But they will be the newcomers next year, just like Swansea were two years ago.

“It won’t be just the first year, you have to cope with that for a few years where you will be among the favourites to be relegated.

“Swansea went through it and we will have to see whether we have to go through it again depending on where the experts put us.

“But definitely the three coming up will be among the favourites, it’s part of what Cardiff will have to accept.”

On topic, I like Laudrup and I expect him to be a favourite for the next high-profile job in the Premier League.

Laudrup comes across as a layed back guy who has basically achieved everything in football and will lea e but not for money or glamour but for the right reason for him and family.

I will agree with you, he hates to lose and has big plans for us next season

But he never stays at any club for long.
He will be gone the end of next season how ever we do, he dont like the pleasure of long term management.
