Can anyone remind me what the situation is please? I imagine that the value has just risen sharply!

Langston get anything up to £9m for the naming rights.

no idea but with the fair play regulations coming in it is probably being considered as it adds the income of the club

Re: Stadium naming rights

Evening Carlos.

While Langston are beneficiaries of the first £9m of naming rights, who actually gets the final say on if an offer for said rights is accepted?

Kind of stepping all over my point there

The point being that if the club have the right to reject any naming rights deal, the £9m "value" of this to Langston is actually worthless.

Pretty much so. It is never gonna be sold for anything just above the £9million figure.

Expect a stadium naming announcement 48 hours after they renegotiate this Langston deal. Otherwise no naming rights sold.

I heard a rumour that we are signing a shirt sponsorship deal with Malaysian Airlines, at £7million a year :ayatollah:

I heard that airlines rumour also, plus how would we reacted if our stadium was named after VT business in malaysia? If it meant a loophole in fairplay?

Stadium rights. Individual stands do not come into the Langston deal. It is highly likely that we will be playing in the Berjaya Stadium and sitting in the Cosway Stand next season

It would make good sense if that happened. Good deal that is for just a shirt sponsor too.

A way for them to get their own back on Tony Fernandez maybe re last years shirt sponshorship fiasco at QPR

West London Club Queen’s Park Rangers have finally tied down a permanent shirt sponsor deal for this season, though the difficulty faced by newly-promoted and lower league clubs to attract big-ticket sponsors could not be more apparent than in the terms of their new deal.

The Loftus Road club started life back in the English Premier League without a sponsor on their jerseys, until a deal with Malaysia Airlines was hammered out in September.

However, the deal only covered QPR’s home shirt, leaving club owner Tony Fernandes’ low-cost airline Air Asia to sponsor the away kit on a short-term deal.

It has new been confirmed that Air Asia will become the official Away Kit Sponsor for the remainder of the season, completing a one-year deal at the end of the 2011-12 season and worth a reported £350,000.

The relatively short length of the deal, as well as the fact that their logo will only appear on the away shirt underlines the compromises that many clubs are facing to attract marquee shirt sponsors.

Similar issues were faced last season Championship side Middlesbrough, who offered sponsorship of their home-kits on a month-by-month basis, Tottenham Hotspur had different sponsors for domestic and European games and Aston Villa lost sponsor FxPro one year into a three year deal.

Just a rumour though, and the two posters haven't even said where they heard it.

Yeah I know, if true then it would be a good deal for the club.

Wouldn't be surprised if it became the Berjaya Stadium but there is no mileage in naming stands and no precedent set at any other clubs as far as I am aware?

Cardiff City Stadium was always a make do name in the absence of a sponsorship deal. It would be nice to keep CCS in the title but I suspect that would devalue the deal somewhat. Of course if it were to be Berjaya or Cosway then presumably our malaysian master would be able to decide for himself.

The Cardiff City Stadium wasalways intended to be a short term name given to the stadium until such time as a significant sponsor could be found. Stadium sponsors are very much the norm these days e.g. The Emirates, The Ricoh Stadium etc

Clubs all over the country have sponsored stands.

You may well be correct but whats the point when as a football fan I can't recall even the name of one off the top of my head?

I agree, I don't think it's a good idea, just saying that it does happen, and I fully expect it to happen to us sooner rather than later. These deals are obviously nowhere near as lucrative as stadium naming rights, and as such I would fully expect tan to use the opportunity to name at least one of the stands after one of the Berjaya groups subsidiaries.

I noticed airMalaysia signs in the ground last game, may have been in a while but I didn't notice.

Like someone said I can't see a stadium sponsor until Sam is done but that suits me.
