Promotion equals great news for our academy players

It is my firm belief that our promotion will mean more of our academy players will be given more time to develop. In the past the club have let players go at 18 because they did not have the money to give them a few more years to develop Now with premiership money we will have the money to have this luxury

We all know players develop at different ages and if we can give more of our players a chance up to at least 21 rather than 18 I think we can only benefit from it .We have seen a number of players given pro contracts this week and I am so happy for those boys as my son played with them in the academy, so I have seen these boys grow up . However I am sure that if it was three years ago that a number of them would have been released purely down to money available rather than talent

On talk sports the other day they mentioned a striker who scored 3 goals in his first year None in his 2nd year 3 in the 3rd year and 4 in 4th year and lets face it we would all see that as poor The player was Alan Shearer who we all know was a top player . I am not saying we have the next Shearer but at least we will have more time to find out if we have

So I say well done to our young players who have just got a contract and let's hope we are supporting some home grown players in the premiership sooner rather than later

New training ground as well meaning all players will be on the one site

Im sure they will be worth some money if ever we sell some of them as we are now a premiership club. Be nice to see some actually play for us in the future tho !
