Public Transport to the CCS

Thu Apr 18, 2013 4:00 pm

I used to drive to the CCS at the start of the season but this has become a nightmare for parking. My friend drove down this week and parked on the grass verge opposite Canton rugby club. He was the only car not issued a parking fine as he put his disabled badge on display in his car, so we were lucky there.
The last few years I have caught the train down to Grangetown from the Rhymney Valley.
Problem is they only put on 4 carriages after the match which is a nightmare.

"With our ever increasing crowds and the closure of Ninian Park station - Will our club, arriva trains wales or the welsh assembly do anything next year to address this growing problem. Will our fans be ignored again for cost cutting measures? We should have premier transport links for premier football." :!: :!:

Well it would be, but what's the point of driving from Rhondda to Radyr and then getting the train, when you can just get the train from Rhondda?

I could not agree more.

The radyr to ninian park train was stopped (actually it was the return train after the match) some time ago for " safety reasons " with too many people wanting to use the train after the final whistle. No body ever got injured. I believe someone complained because their child was frightened once by the crowd.

What other business turns customers away because it is too popular?

Instead they told people returning to Radyr & the valleys to go the longer distance to Grangetown and fight even more for a space on a similar sized train.

I used to use the train every match from Radyr, but now spurn public transport and drive, but the traffic is getting worse.

Next Season ??? LET'S HOPE THEY RE-OPEN NINIAN PARK HALT after matches.

I don't think the Rhondda train goes to Ninian Park. You have to change at Radyr...as many used to.

That's what I mean, change at Radyr or Central for NP station. By the way NP station has been open after games for months now.

The council operates a shuttle service between I assume town and the stadium not sure on prices but they leave/arrive every 10 minutes. Most probably more info on the website.Maybe a train into town a few light refreshments and the bus to the stadium. There is a thing called the plus bus which allows you to get a discounted bus ticket with a train ticket but aslong as you show a match ticket I think it might be cheaper.
Hope that helps :ayatollah:

Cardiff Bus operate a bus that leaves Central Station (Wood Street) starting from 2 hours before kick off and every 20 mins up to 20 mins before KO. It drops off at the Fred Keenor statue then picked up there from 5 mins after final whistle every 20 mins for an hour. £2.20 for a day to go with match ticket. The bus is really underused as not many people seem to know about it!

My source who still catches the train to the game but walks home after the games to Llandaff via some pubs !, says that the trains do run from Ninian Park to Radyr BUT not the train immediately after the matches.
They DO NOT STOP at Ninian Park. The next train is ages later.
