Which players will we leave behind?

I have been thinking about the difficulty that our management team will now have in saying goodbye to those who have served us well but wont make it in the premiership. I remember many years ago when Oldham were a dead cert for promotion but then went through a massive slump at the end of the season. The thought there was that most of the squad knew they were for the chop so blew their season as they didnt want to change clubs/move house etc etc. Our boys have not done that but have got the job done!
Are players like Velikonja, Kiss, Harris players that we have invested in for the future (like the nine young lads who have just got contracts) or were they mistakes and will have to move on?

Saying goodbye to stalwarts who have been good and loyal servants to the club who have put down ties in Cardiff, they have homes here, their kids go to school here they have friends etc.........is that difficult, or are they journeymen footballers and its just part of the job?

I would be interested in what people think?

Lappin & Helgusson are out of contract so I expect them to leave. McPhail is also out of contract I believe but should be given a 1 year deal for his service to this club and what he has gone through.

I think we'll keep most contracted players, especially the youth, but send them out on loan. Could send a few over the bridge to help out Bristol (Rovers that is )

Mcnaughton - he will be offered a contract but at greatly lower term effectivly forcing him from the club

Wouldnt be surprised at all if conway and cowie leave at some point in the early season

Lappin was a superb signing. Cannot believe how much value for money we got.

Trap Door List:
McPhail +McNaughton - Both McPhail and McNaughton have been great servants for this football club and have more than played their part but if we are going to the run the club on sentiment alone then we deserve to come straight back down. Neither are good enough for the prem and therefor I'd allow them to go.

Lappin - Probably a decent player but with Taylor infront of you, you're gonna struggle. Plus if we end up getting another really good LB in, He's be third choice at best.

Kiss - There is a shout to loan him but I'm not sure there's much point

Helguson - Did his job this season but again, not good enough for a Premiership campaign.


Loan List:

Kadeem Harris - This kid has been in freighting form in the DVP games recently and would love to see him go out and get some league experience.

Etien Velikonja - This is a tough one whether to sell or loan him. Due to the amount we paid, I'd rather we loan him out into the Championship and see what we can get for him.

Joe Ralls - Another great prospect for the future, I'd love to see him get a season of games in the Championship before coming back to us.

If we were still in the Championship I'd agree but the whole football club now needs to kick on and we need to go onto the next step and much as I love Kev and what he's done, I think offering him a new contract would be bad business
