my mate went to manchester university ...which was a university

but when I was a student the place I went to was called manchester ploytechnic



and when people ask me if I was ever a student and they ask me where I studied I say " I went to manchester polytechnic "

because at the time , thats what it was

I don't really want to stand up for Bloo but at the end of the day a degree is a degree whether it was gained at University or a Polytechnic.

From what I remember there was a lot of snobbery 20 to 30 years ago where a degree gained at Poly was considered lesser than one gained at Uni even though you did the same syllabus.

I'm pretty sure that was one of the main reasons why many Poly's eventually converted into Universities.
