Helguson for the PL?

Mon Apr 15, 2013 2:34 pm

He has premier league experience with QPR and we need the right mix, youth doesn't work as shown with Aston villa, does he deserve a new contract?

Re: Helguson for the PL?

"Youth doesn't work as shown with Villa" my arse, Lambert had to take over a crap team left by Mcleish, Houllier etc and put his own stamp on things, Benteke who's 22/23 with so many goals for them this season? Idiotic comment

Debatable, he did score something like 9 goals for QPR last season up till January when he got injured.

No - A great warrior but not for me

Love Helguson and wish we'd have had him a few years ago but he'll be 36 next season.

He'll go somewhere like Shef Wed.

Absolutely not. Hes starting to show his age this season hes not sharp enough for the next level.

Not really, he's set the club up for a good future.

Re: Helguson for the PL?

If he has any sense he will retire so that people can remember him as the very good player he was rather than the totally immobile one he is becoming. I would be amazed if he got another contract with us.He has done his bit this season but there is no way he would cut it in the premiership next year.

Re: Helguson for the PL?

I'm afraid that he isn't IMO. Good experience and workrate but he is unfortulently getting on a bit now. At the end of the season I think that he will be gone.

im sorry but to say that lambert inherted a shit team is bull, febian delph, darren bent, agbonlahor, bannan, given, are but a handfull of names, he chose not to play bent and kept wiennman uptop, listen, lambert is too arrogant in his style of play, and thinks he can win them all. same as steve kean, he inherited a team thats done well over the years, took them down, then done poor, same as owen coyle, then they get sacked and say they where shocked

This isn't the good Villa team that MoN had.

They've sold Barry, Milner, Downing and Young. Given is showing his age and they've sold any experience in their back line. Abgonlahor's never done it and Bent's the most selfish player in English football.

Lambert will do very well to keep them up and if they do stay up it'll be his signings that have done it. I.e. Benteke.

Re: Helguson for the PL?

I think Helguson would be a decent squad player. He works hard, has Premier League experience and also has a nack for the odd goal. I think he was one of, if not the top, QPR goalscorer last season too.

I wouldn't want nor expect Helguson to lead the line at any point next season, but I do feel he could be a useful substitution. He offers a good threat in the air and is a nuisance to play against. Hes not too bad technically either.

It's a step up tho and another year older and we will be looking to improve on top of that.

Tbh even of we stayed down I wouldn't have kept him.

I wouldn't use his age against him. As long as he comes back in good shape, I think we have a fairly decent striker who could chip in with at least 5 goals. Those goals could be vital towards survival. He has experienced relegation and a relegation dog fight resulting in survival in the Premier League and that experience could prove priceless.

As I said I wouldn't expect him to start any game, but a decent substitution he could be.

IMO he has missed to many chances though out the season and next season no doubt we will have fewer.

I don't really hold his age against him but he will be another year older and it will have an effect. Personally if rather see a mason on the bench who can learn and improve.

To me although he has done ok this season I don't think he has done enough to earn a new contract.

I can see where you are coming from and i agree he has missed some good chances. But he has also scored a few match winners/equalizers over the course of the season. It would be interesting to see how many points his goals have won us.

I have to disagree over the earning a new contract comment as he is our top scorer. I think he has done better than most have imagined. However, I didnt realise he was in his last year of his contract.

I certainly don't think he has had a bad season and has been very useful this year, a decent signing.

I think the fact he is out top scorer shows how much we lacked up front. Campbell has 6 in 11 and that's more like what we need. I'd hope we would sign two strikers for next season then along with Maynard, Campbell and Mason chasing for the team.

Heidars biggest fan right here. :D

I will be honest I would prefer to see him gone... bugger this squad player crap because it ent good enough for someone is age.

Although I will say he has been a great player this season and he has been a key man in the odd games and pinched a few goals.

No doubt that if your a club chasing promotion to Premier League then he is one type of striker that wouldn't exactly hurt to have in the team.

He has worked hard and say what you want but the guy has put 100% every game and you never see him give up.

His goal against Hull is one you won't see often with the commitment strikers like him show.

Honestly wish him the best whatever happens.. Had a great career.
