' Mini Update ' MAYNARD TO RETURN SOONER THAN EXPECTED

Thu Apr 11, 2013 4:35 pm

I got some good news regarding Nicky Maynard and his possible return to the side, Nicky took part in training today down the Vale and joined 9 other first team players in a game of head tennis, Maynard was guarding the front of the net and was not taking it easy in the slightest, he was scissor kicking the ball, kneeing it, even bicycle kicking it over the net, if you were not aware that he had suffered the knee injury you would never have guessed that the player was returning from injury.

After the head tennis game, he took part in a game of dodgeball and throughout he was throwing himself out of the way and landing with impact on the ground, movement from all directions, twisting and turning throughout the game.

The plan is to introduce Maynard back on to the field during a development game and providing everything goes as is expected then he will make a return to the first team before the season ends. I have always believed he would return before the season ends and judging on what was witnessed today then I am even more convinced that he will.

Matt Connolly and Fraizer Campbell have been doing work in the pool and will be assessed ahead of Saturday's game but it is my opinion that Saturday will be a little too soon for the pair of them.

Kevin McNaughton, who trained with the squad today is fit for Saturday.

Malky is hopeful that Chris Hughton will allow Leon Barnett to extend his loan spell with us, his current loan expires after the game on Saturday and hopefully he will stay longer even if it means he will be on a 24 hour recall from Saturday.

Good news, scary to think how much better off we would have been with him.

Would be great to see him in the shirt again although i personally think we would be crazy to throw him in at this stage.
Give him the whole summer of preparation to be ready for next season. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Great news ! If promotion isn't settled soon and he's ready then give him part of a game and see how he goes. :malky:

I personally feel and hope that we will not see Maynard until next season.

Would be a shame to undo all the good work done so far on a risk, which isn't really necessary.

Great news about Nicky but I believe a deal to sign Barrett is more important, both being fit and in our squad for the last four games would really help us.

If you read, I say I hope we don't see him back. With this type of injury, it would be a senseless risk to rush him back - but I totally trust the medical team - would be a big surprise considering the relatively short recovery time.

At the end of the day, this is only Carl's opinion - not the opinion of club/Malky.

I think he'll only play if we're promoted already.

Always thought that he would return before the season ends because he had injured himself so early in the season :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky: :malky:

Well, I haven't heard any official statement from the club.

If he is back, great - I just hope that the club don't try and rush him back after such a long injury break. Would hate the same to happen to Maynard that happened to Hudson. Especially as the season is almost over.

Would just make better sense to give him a full pre-season instead. All just MY opinion, of course.

I think the stand out word for me carl was possible. if we can get over the line without him great but if frazier struggles then im afraid we must gamble with nicky. unless of course heidar's been practising his one on ones today

Completely disagree. I think he'll play if we struggle to get it done and Malky uses him as a last resort to throw everything at it. Only then is it worth the risk.

If we're already promoted, it would be almost suicidal to put him on in games that mean nothing especially considering we could be playing Hull who may have everything to play for themselves. The risk of injury in this division is far greater with the physical approach of many teams and the terrible pitches some clubs have.

Carl, don't even bother engaging with this complete pessimist.

If Chuckle had a pint 9 tenths full he would call it 1 tenth empty.

The saddest person on this board without a doubt.

When people on Twitter are like 'on the forum so it must be true' it makes me laugh, so if Carl posted this on Twitter, it'd be more truthful?

I hope it's true but we can wait till next season. There's only one development game left of the season I think, or two. One more league game and a play-off.

Would be stupid to play him before the season ends.

Good news yes, but it looks unlikely that we'll have a competitive Development fixture anytime soon as they have finished their season and sealed a play-off place. It will be at least another 2 weeks before the play-offs even start as some teams still have a few games to play, in both the South Division and North Division. At the moment they have only been playing 1 game a week maximum, so unless this is upped the play-off semi won't be until the very end of the month.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012–13_Professional_Development_League_2

So, unless a friendly is arranged, which it may well be if the Development Team have a long wait, he won't be getting a game for them when we are playing our last 2 games of the season, at most.

Chuckle you really are an argumentative soul imo just for attention..... cant be any other reason..... try sticking to facts ffs ......quote just like hudson ..fact hudson is out with an injury to his other foot /leg than the original injury ...fact malky and his staff do not rush injured players back too quick ..imo quite the opposite ..smith 11 weeks turner put on bench only ..mutch took ages to get back ..recently noone not starting ...but hey lets not let the truth get in your way ....I could of put up about maynard today as I witnessed exactly what carl stated. as I was at training today and yes unless you knew maynard was recovering from an injury you would not of known he looked very well and confident in all he did....but im getting to realise theres no debating with you ...as your allways right :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: the rest of us are just not worthy

One hell of a "signing" for the development squad in thier playoffs games, I bet Kevin Cooper thinks Christmas has come early this year.

And what a boost for the first team and of course Nicky himself. What a mouthwatering prospect of watching Maynard and Campbell this conjures up in the mind.

No doubt in my mind that pairing would have any defence in this league shitting themselves at the prospect of these two, not forget being supported by the likes of Bellamy, Whittingham, Mutch, Noone, Conway and Kim Bo.

f**k me the dark clouds of negative football over my head are clearing already. :D
