CCFC v FOREST LATEST NEWS/Preds & OFFICIAL MATCH THREAD

Wed Apr 10, 2013 11:15 am

I don't know what to say about this game, but I have got to go for a home win 2-1 we live in hope, I have put this up now to try to take our minds of last night :ayatollah: :malky: :ayatollah:

Cardiff City will be without striker Fraizer Cambell for Saturday's home match against Nottingham Forest.

Cardiff City will be without striker Fraizer Cambell for Saturday's home match against Nottingham Forest.

The 25-year-old has failed to recover from the shin injury he suffered against Blackburn Rovers on Easter Monday, while defender Matt Connolly is also unavailable again.

Campbell has scored six goals in 11 appearances since his £650,000 transfer from Sunderland in January, and his absence is sure to be felt again.
Joe Mason is likely to start up front again, with Kevin McNaughton continuing to fill in for groin strain-victim Connolly at right-back.

Both players could also be missing for Tuesday night's visit of Charlton - a game that could see the Bluebirds clinch promotion if they beat Forest and other results go their way.

Boss Malky Mackay said: "They are both still missing but the minute we think then can come back in they will do. With five games to go we are in the right position. It helps that you don't have to rely on other things happening. I want us to win every game we play."

Forest strikers suffer goal drought in Bluebirds build-up

Having drawn their last three Championship matches, Nottingham Forest's frontmen are now struggling for goals

Nottingham Forest are facing a goalscoring problem, which is strange for a team unbeaten in their last 10 Championship matches.

They have drawn their last three matches, struggled to overcome 10-man Blackpool – and their strikers are struggling for goals.

Darius Henderson is the only Forest striker to have netted in well over two months. He has hit the net twice, but Forest’s forwards in general are lacking that goals touch.

Midfield player Lewis McGugan is on fire with six in the last six matches – one in each match – and five of those have come off the bench.

But former Forest and England striker Garry Birtles is adamant things have to change if they are to maintain a top six position.

“You have to go back to the final minute of a 2-1 defeat at Birmingham, on February 2, for the last time another striker scored, with Billy Sharp converting from the spot,” says Birtles. “And now Forest believe they need to win at either Cardiff tomorrow or Middlesbrough, if they are to make sure they do not drop out of the top six.

“Forest are full of self-belief and have one man to thank for that because Billy Davies has sent both factors through the roof.

“But he needs to get his strikers scoring again. Simon Cox is playing well. His industry and work-rate are enough for him to deserve his place in the side.

But, whether it is him, Sharp, Henderson or Dexter Blackstock, it is time for the front men to start doing what they are paid for – scoring a goal or two.”

Forest play a 4-1-3-2 system with Algerian Adlene Guedioura playing in front of the back four.

Henri Lansbury, Radi Majewski and Andy Reid then form a narrow midfield three aiming to create chances for the front two, probably Cox and Henderson.

Forest lack width at times, but they have scored 20 goals, mainly from midfield players, and conceded only seven in their 10-match unbeaten run.

Davies is likely to go for an unchanged starting line-up tomorrow and if he does that means goals ace McGugan will be among the subs and ready to go on.

If he does the Bluebirds must beware.

Mackay also revealed that he is hopeful of extending the stay of Norwich City defender Leon Barnett, who is due to play his last Cardiff game against Forest before his month-long loan deal expires.

Barnett has impressed in a central role since arriving as emergency cover for Bluebirds captain Mark Hudson, ruled out for the rest of the season by an ankle injury.

Keeping Barnett until the end of the season has become even more of a priority as fellow defender Matthew Connolly is still an injury doubt, as is striker Fraizer Campbell.

Both players sat out the draw with Barnsley and will be assessed ahead of the Forest game.

The simple fact is that if we take the lead, we need to act on it and kill the game off as Forest are no Barnsley and will pile pressure on us, if we sit back too deep then we will lose, that's my feeling.

The likes of McGugan, Lansbury, Mejewski and Sharp will punish us.

City 2-1 Forest is my reckoning.

Depends what formation we play. The Forest coaching staff would have watched and analysed our last 2 games, where we've played Mason up top on his own. I think perhaps Malky should play 442. Something they may not be expecting. :ayatollah:

Fraizer Campbell (shin) and Matthew Connolly (groin) will have late tests for Cardiff but both should play.

Defender Leon Barnett should also feature for the leaders after having his loan deal from Norwich extended until the end of the season.

Fifth-placed Nottingham Forest should have an unchanged squad to choose from and may start Lewis McGugan, whose late penalty secured a point at Blackpool.

Stephen McLaughlin's ongoing ankle problem remains the only injury worry.

So according to that, Fraizer at Connolly will be fit?
