MM - Tactics

Tue Apr 09, 2013 9:40 pm

I was surprised tonight to see Mason start up top by himself. A good footballer but not big enough to lead the line. He would be ideal for playing alongside Campbell or HH but not leading the line. We are at home playing a bottom 6 team, lets get at them.

Along with Bellamy the most attacking footballer we have who can beat players, create chances and score goals was again warming the bench. I refer to Craig Noone. The game was crying out for him tonight to attack Barnsley. Instead Conway was the preferred option. It seems that we put our self in a strong position but cannot kill teams off.

Thought Mutch and Barnett were excellent tonight but surely we have to be less conservative and kill teams off when they are there for the taking ! Not 1point gained but 2 points lost.

Mason not good enough in my opinion, I'd rather rudy gestede up there and that's saying something, Bellamy up front is the better option

So unfortunate to have both Campbell & Maynard out, both goal poaching strikers, Mason I feel is a trequartista sort of player, but he doesn't set the attacks up, he's not in the box as much and his poistioning and judgement is questionable at times.

Malky McKay is still to prove to me that he has the tactical nous to be a top manager. He's shit hot at all the other stuff - tactically naive though.

To bring on a player that's really struggling for form, like Whittingham, for a player that's red hot form right now, is bizarre to say the least.

As soon as Whittingham came on, the tempo of the team dropped and we sat back. Malky is a very Stubborn manager as he proved before with Conway.

What has Velikonja done wrong?!

I agree. Some of his decisions sometimes are shocking imo, I think he is just playing mason for the sake of it to give him some game time when really he ain't up to the job, same as bringing whittingham on just for the sake of it to give him a few minitues rather than upsetting him keeping him on the bench all game. Whittingham been off the pace for a while now and your right he always slows the play down no go in him

Bellamy is going through the worst non scoring patch of his footballing life rite now and he couldnt pass water lastnight let alone take a player on he was awfull tbh and should have been changed by anyone, it looked at times as if he was past it, maybe hes tired i dunno but lastnight he wasnt up to it imo weather it was his crap passing or a freekick going ten yards wide, hardly anything went rite for him.
