Yes, but if we would have lost another one of 2 ships after years of Tory cutbacks then who knows. We were that close to losing, but you are right yes we won :ayatollah:

You mean she sold anything that wasn't nailed down and partied on the money. Now all the money's gone and there's nothing left to sell.

I had to laugh at the openning of the olympics. They wanted to celerate Britsh things. The only thing they had to work with was the NHS. That's the only thing that's Britsh now. Before Thatcher we had names such as Rolls Royce. Manufacturers that were the envy of the world. "Made in Hong Kong" was a joke back then, but now it's the norm to have everything made there. Nothing left here, she sold the lot!

Now we are at the mercy of the world for everything we need. Not even the rain is ours now! As soon as that hits the ground the French own it.

Elvis Costello - Tramp The Dirt Down

I saw a newspaper picture from the political campaign
A woman was kissing a child, who was obviously in pain
She spills with compassion, as that young childs
Face in her hands she grips
Can you imagine all that greed and avarice
Coming down on that childs lips

Well I hope I don't die too soon
I pray the lord my soul to save
Oh I'll be a good boy, Im trying so hard to behave
Because there's one thing I know, I'd like to live
Long enough to savour
That's when they finally put you in the ground
Ill stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down

When england was the whore of the world
Margeret was her madam
And the future looked as bright and as clear as
The black tarmacadam
Well I hope that she sleeps well at night, isnt
Haunted by every tiny detail
Cos when she held that lovely face in her hands
All she thought of was betrayal

And now the cynical ones say that it all ends the same in the long run
Try telling that to the desperate father who just squeezed the life from his only son
And how it's only voices in your head and dreams you never dreamt
Try telling him the subtle difference between justice and contempt
Try telling me she isn't angry with this pitiful discontent
When they flaunt it in your face as you line up for punishment
And then expect you to say thank you straighten up, look proud and pleased
Because youve only got the symptoms, you haven't got the whole disease
Just like a schoolboy, whose heads like a tin-can
Filled up with dreams then poured down the drain
Try telling that to the boys on both sides, being blown to bits or beaten and maimed
Who takes all the glory and none of the shame

Well I hope you live long now, I pray the lord your soul to keep
I think I'll be going before we fold our arms and start to weep
I never thought for a moment that human life could be so cheap
Cos when they finally put you in the ground
They'll stand there laughing and tramp the dirt down
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This states my feelings more eloquently than I ever could.

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead.
Which old Witch?
The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead.
She's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
Let them know
The Wicked Witch is dead
The Wicked Witch is dead!

You're lucky you still got a coal fire.
We had to change to the cheaper and cleaner gas for our heating.

Although it does mean we get 1/2 hour extra in bed in the morning not cleaning the old fire, and the environment does seem a lot cleaner, so it was not all a big loss really.

Fuckin evil bitch. The most devisive leader we have ever mad who reinforced the social divide right across the classes. Shut down South Wales (the Midlands and North) single handedly and saw a whole generation lost to early redundancy and the youth to massive unemployment.
We now have an economy where the biggest employer is the service sector and no strong manufacturing base at all. She sold the family silver, the Coal, Railways, gas, electric and water (the major employers) and saw that the shares were underwritten by the wealthy. Those who made a pound out of it were effectively buying what was already ours. The wealth got richer while the underclass soviety was formed.
May she rot in shit with all her right wing cronies at her side. I feel better for that!!!

It's our fault there is no British industries left.

We chose to buy cheap imports.

It's economics.

Nothing to do with Thatcher.

If we bought British then they would still be here!

Thatcher won the war? Did she f**k, I don't recall her jumping from the Sir Galahad. She gave the thumbs up for our military to take action, any PM would've done the same. There isn't a household in South Wales who didnt suffer hardship during and following her reign.

Very sad day the passing of Maggie! Your having a laugh..all these people saying such wonderful things about her what a load of rubbish..Her policy was at the time mass unemployment, child benefit frozen for a number of years, sky high interest rates(ok if you had money in the bank)screw the working class and make them suffer(by god she done that alright)look after the chosen few with tax incentives(lower the rate)for those on maga money. stuck two fingers up to manufacturing industry and completely ruined it..The damage that bitch done to the ordinary working man is unforgiveable..

Only slight though, I bet every household knew someone who did suffer.

The 'chosen few' as in the majority that voted Thatcher in 3 times?

I think we'd all be suffering a lot more now if she hadn't been there to break the grip the unions were getting on the country in the late 1970's - we'd probably be like Greece now, if not even worse.

I do however genuinely sympathise with individuals who went through hardship, but my hatred is reserved for the real villains - people like Scargill  .

5 pager? Interesting that we're playing teams from Barnsley and Nottingham in our next two games. Echoes of the miners' strike. Promotion clinched v Forest would be apt.

She was very good at selling back to the public what they already owned(state owned companies)the biggest vote catcher was at the time the sale of council houses thats why she was voted in...the next term she was voted in due to the feel good factor of winning the fauklands war...The 3rd term of goverment she was in fact hanging by a thread and the general public by than had a guts full, she was dumped by her own party...Its true that the torys look after their own, this is being proven again by this government..the people on £150000/yr will see their tax drop from 50p in the pound to 40p in the pound whilst at the same time the ordinary working man gets screwed...But not to worry Im sure theres going to be another war in the pipeline that will keep the torys in power(as long as they and their family havent got to fight on the frontline)

I was one who took advantage of the 'Right to Buy' scheme and years later because I had an asset which I could borrow against it give me opportunities which I would never have dreamt of doing had she not put that scheme in place.

In fact that policy alone provided this working class kid and opportunity to raise up the ecomonic ladder and for that alone I will always be grateful to her.
