STEVE JONES WELSH MARATHON LEGEND

Hello my fellow blooooooobirds ..... i`m starting a bit of a campaign going via facebook to get the new leisure centre in ebbw vale named after STEVE JONES .... for people who have never heard of him, steve was born in Tredegar and raised in Ebbw vale and during the 80s won the london, new york, boston and chicago marathons. steve was world record holder in 1984 and as held the british record ever since [29 years in october] ... infact steve holds the 4 fastest times by a british athlete. steve also represented great britain in the olympics and wales at the commonwealth games winning a bronze medal in the latter .... steve did all this while serving in the RAF ..... steves british record stands at 2:07:13 and no one as come close to it since those days ..... on the 25th anniversary of that time i sent numerous letters to blaenau gwent council for the date to be recongnised but they all fell on deaf years .... anyway if you could join this group i would be grateful of your support! ... thanks https://www.facebook.com/lee.aherne.1?r ... 255920864/

I'm a Bluebird and a runner, in fact we ran for the same club but I didn't see a lot of you.You retired a while back but I hope you come back into it some day if your not already (im not at the club much). I would be thrilled to get anywhere near some of the times you have put in, although I class myself as a reasonably good runner.

I haven't used my Facebook account for ages as im a bit paranoid about everyone knowing what im up to.I will pop on, or use my girlfriends account to register my support, seeing as you are a fellow Bluebird and runner. I should do it so this guy can get the recognition he deserves. Best of luck with it.
