Simple minds

Tonight in Llandudno, brilliant. Drove up today from Cardiff, well worth the drive. Met another city fan from Neath who had travelled up by train. Jim Kerr mentioned Ledley and Mathews and thanked the Welsh for them :ayatollah: :old: :ayatollah:

Great band in their day. Lost it after New Gold Dream and Sparkle In The Rain. On the latter, cue 'The Kick Inside' and play very loud on an awayday.

My mistake. It was Free's guitarist Paul Kossoff who has a Spanish cousin called Juan.

One the most brilliant bands to come out of the 1980's.

There was some excellent music that came out of the '80's. This is not a 'let's reminisce about how the old days were better" comment either. So many different styles and you got your fix from Spillars, Buffalo and I think there was a Virgin Records just opposite the castle. If I had to pick only one record from the 80's (almost impossible), it would have to be the original Blue Monday 12". Truly groundbreaking at the time and I honestly think will never date.

I downloading music is a brilliant way to buy, but I miss the buzz of shuffle through a record shop like Spillars. Virgin and HMV never quite did it for me, although I'm sad to see their demise.

Blue Monday was brilliant and ground breaking it is part of my all time greats hits playlist. Also the 1980's seemed to be the decade of Scottish musical talent led by Simple Minds.

They include Big Country, Deacon Blue, Aztec Camera, Altered Images, The Bluebells, The Associates, Eurythmics, Hue & Cry, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, The Waterboys and those die hard Hibs fans the Proclaimers.

Not all of them were to my taste but their sure were a lot of them.

My favourite 80's hit was really a leftover from the 70's punk era Londong Calling by the Clash.

I download but I actually went into Spillers a few weeks ago and bought the new Johnny Marr album - first CD I've bought for years. You will never beat browsing in an independent record shop. The net has also meant you can discover lots of music you would never have maybe listened to or discovered but I liked the days when you had to track a particular record down in a shop. Also a real loss is album artwork and design as that was nearly as important as the record sometimes. I actually suspect that there maybe a return to quality at some point.
