Mlm marketing

Thu Apr 04, 2013 9:45 am

I have recently been offered a chance to get in at a pre launch level of a product due to be launched in the uk by a billion dollar company in June , very early stages due to being contacted by a American friend involved over there !

I've never been involved in this type of business anybody with any experience of mlm ? Are they worth a punt ?

MLM means multi level marketing, or piramid marketing/selling, so you get money from what you sell and from the people you recruit to sell, it can be hard working very rewarding, if you are a very good sales person. You could be selling door to door or at a stall somewhere and is usually commission only.

It doesnt matter what the product is If you are not good at selling you will struggle at first. for every 100 people you speak to you will sell to 1.

Personally although the rewards are good, I didnt like it.

I won't be knocking any doors , its more of a business opportunity than a job , I'm busy enough as it is . Was just interested to see if they are worth investing in and getting a team under me to do the selling . Mlm is an area I have no real experience .

Generally steer clear of this sort of thing. I've been in big sales roles for years and I've looked at a couple of these. If it looks to good to be true then it probably is. :old:

totally agree - I've been in sales for years, tried MLM 20 years ago and didn't enjoy it.

You have to work you way up through the levels (distributors, team leaders, managers, Business owners), if you buy in and go straight to the top, you may not have the experience to keep your teams motivated, Its all based on the american style of selling, no seats in the meeting rooms, practicing the pitches for 2 hours before they go out, ringing the bell when they make sales (Cringe).

Isn't Cosway (owner one Vincent Tan) some kind of MLM company?

More of a franchise I thought.

MLM is associated with pyramid selling but that can be misleading.

Basically pyramid selling is where you put money into a system. Those above you take a percentage of it. If you recruit people below you you take a percentage of what they put in and so do the people above you. Usually it is mandatory to have a monthly perscription for these things and they are illegal.

Todays MLM that are close to a pyramid scheme basically make you sell a product. You have to sell to keep your commission level up. It gets around the mandatory monthly subscription.

Some MLM do seem to work well within the laws though. If they don't require you to set up a monthly subscription then that is a good start. If you don't have to sell so many products a month then that is better. They are the 2 facts you have to look at.

There is no monthly payment and no target per month just pay a smallish fee to become a promoter , the more you sell and the more people you sign up to sell the product for you the more you make !
Not really my normal type of business but I look at anything that has potential to make money , seeing as this company became the first mlm in America to hit a billion dollars it may be worth a look .
It's a new weight watchers style scheme that is the highest selling and used programme in America , there spending millions on the uk launch which is this month .
Potential is huge for a small risk ! Will it take off or flop ? Anyone's guess really
