Back up boys ready to play big part: Mason

Thu Apr 04, 2013 12:18 am

Easter marksman Joe Mason insists Cardiff City’s back-up boys are ready to play their part in the Bluebirds’ promotion charge.
Mason, Jordon Mutch and Kim Bo-Kyung have started only 34 Championship matches between them, but they all played a major role in the 3-0 win over Blackburn on Easter Monday.

“I was really happy to score my goal,” Mason told Cardiff City Player. I haven’t had too many opportunities lately, but it was great to see that go in. It’s good for my confidence. Kim and Jordon were both brilliant. That just shows what we’ve got coming off the bench and the ability we have to give some lads a bit of a breather.”

Mason took his season’s goals tally to six against Blackburn with Fraizer Campbell and Peter Whittingham, from the penalty spot, also among the scorers.

“It was a convincing team performance,” said Mason. We were really patient and could have had a few more in the first half. In the end, though, we got what we deserved.”

Mason is likely to be needed again for the live Sky clash at Watford on Saturday with Campbell being assessed by the club’s medical department after limping off against Blackburn.

“We knew three points against Rovers would be massive for us,” he said. We all applied ourselves properly, picked ourselves up from the disappointing defeat at Peterborough and showed everyone what we’re about. Now our focus is on Watford. The whole of the back five looked really solid against Blackburn. Leon (Barnett) has come in and slotted into that unit really well.”

He'd be on 15 by now if he'd played as much as Heidar did at the start of the season

Mason could have easily had 10 if he was starting etc and coming off the bench more.

Scored when he came on vs Bristol, Blackburn (twice). Scored when he started against Burnley and Birmingham.

The lad will take a chance if he's given one.
