Youngs guns offer glimpse of bright future

Thu Apr 04, 2013 12:14 am

CARDIFF City gave us a glimpse into their Premier League future with an Easter Monday battering of Blackburn.

Not, of course, with the 3-0 scoreline in their favour, because I guarantee no game in the top flight will be anywhere near as comfortable as that one was. More that the stars of the show were a trio of fringe figures who many believe have been under-utilised this season... Kim Bo-kyung, Joe Mason and Jordon Mutch. These are three highly-gifted individuals, who, while overlooked by Malky Mackay for the majority of this Championship season, are amongst the Bluebirds players most capable of playing and thriving at Premier League level.

Am I getting carried away here? Mathematically, I guess, because City have to get over the promotion line. Defeat at a resurgent Watford in Saturday’s Championship clash of the season could yet provide a few jitters in the Bluebirds’ closing six matches. But, whatever happens at Vicarage Road, most of us know deep down it is merely a matter of when, rather than if, Cardiff clinch their top-flight dream.

And, while Mackay is quite rightly continuing to focus upon the present, part of him and that of Vincent Tan must already be planning for the future. How many of this current class of Bluebirds could handle the enormous step up in quality it would take to deal with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, and even Fulham, Wigan and West Brom? Well, two I believe could come into their own against the better opposition, when there will be less hurly-burly and more time afforded on the ball, are ‘Kimbo’ and Mason.

I honestly think that with the team we have right now we would make a good go of Premiership survival, probably be in between where Wigan are and Reading/QPR are but then with a few quality signings we'll be more than competitive enough :ayatollah:

I dont think we stand a chance to even survive with what we have rite now tbh but like you said about signings we would need half a team to stay up at best in my opinion :malky:

True, i honestly believe that the way we play will change next year, i think malky has just used this campaign to beat a bit of toughness into the players, installing a bit of grit that we will need against the likes of wigan, fulham sunderland and stoke, we can forget planning to beat teams like everton spurs and united but the mini league of say 13 teams at the bottom i think we will be able to compete players like kimbo whitts mutch mason noone and bellamy will really shine for us next year (and scrape us to 17th place  ;) )
