Question to all...

Wed Apr 03, 2013 6:26 pm

Nothing to do with the re-brand just interested to see what people think as this was discussed in work today with a split opinion.

Also apologies if you think this is a bit negative but it is just an honest question.

If we were to be relegated back to the Championship after one season in the Premiership what sort of % of our current fan base would we retain or what sort of crowds do you think we would get if that situation were to arise. Also, do you believe the Club would be right to go ahead with stadium expansion straight away or do you believe they should wait until we are an established Premier League Club?

Obviously there is not a right or wrong answer as it is purely hypothetical but given the nature
of the South Wales sporting public and given the fact that most people would have seen what they wanted
I think we would probably go down to 15,000 crowds tops pretty quickly should we be relegated straight away?
I also think the club should hold off from any stadium expansion until we have been in the Premier League for at least 3 seasons as it would be a disaster for Cardiff to be a Championship club with a 36,000 seater stadium, if that means the ground only holds 27,000 for a few more seasons so be it?

Thoughts?

any true fan will stick with the club through thick and thin.

It would definitely be a test of our new fans, but I wouldn't judge them too harshly yet.

Think we would go back to what we currently have for the 1st season. But who knows if we end up staying in the championship for longer

I'm a Cardiff fan end of............ not certain about the numbers returning after a year in the Premiership, although we could easily bounce back up, but hey ho. :ayatollah:

i think we'd still get 20,000 crowds... we're not in the prem yet so those 'plastics' havent arrived yet

Re: Question to all...

75-80% first season
60-65% second season if not promoted
50-55% third season if not promoted

Of course they have. I know loads down there from Merthyr alone who care more about Liverpool and Man U than they do Cardiff.

I think that is pretty fair assumption.

3 seasons back in the Championship and would be back to 13-14,000, what we had pre fa-cup final.

Spot on mate.

Would be madness to expand the stadium to 30,000 plus at the moment IMO.

Good question actually. I agree with you stadium expansion can wait a few years. We don't seem capable of filling it now so if we struggle next year then a load of empty seats won't help the atmosphere one bit. I would like to give the benefit of doubt to the new fans and say they may stay but you and me know they will give their seats up if we fail.

More importantly is shouldn't you we hard at work not talking matters regarding the Bluebirds!!!!

80-90% would renew (remembering we have one more season of 'The Ambassador deal' to go ;) ) and IMHO we should go for the expansion as soon as it can be done :ayatollah:

We have several high profile games next season that would sell the Millenium stadium out and it seems a pity to miss out (a) on the revenue, and (b) the opportunity to get people into the CCS even if thay are there to see the opposition to some degree :ayatollah:

Let's be totally honest here. Who ISN'T looking forward to seeing certain teams/players at the CCS? :)

I know I am, although I will 100% be supporting Cardiff City FC and hoping we batter the opposition whoever they might be :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

fair enough, but the majority will arrive after promotion!

I think what we are missing is the growth of new fans over the recnt years, especially the younger ones.

We lost a generation during the dark days, but those of us who have been coming for years started when football at Cardiff was a big thing, and once you get the bug, you stuck with it.

So what ever the outcome, if we go down at least we would have a lot of new bluebirds with the club in their blood, and the circle of life goes on, well that's what they reckon in Lion King anyway, and you don't argue with lions.(well only once at the most ;) )

All good opinions mate but not on the same page as you on this one.

I don't think the price freeze will mean that much to a lot of people if we go straight back down, it will be the last year for us and I could see a lot of people sacking it off.

Also disagree about the stadium expansion as should the worst happen and we go down playing in a 36,000 seater stadium
in front of 15,000 would be appalling, we need to get up and stay up for a few years before they do this IMO.

Totally different world now though Gwyn and other things in life are more accesable to kids than Championship Football plus most of the youngsters will be banned for letting of smoke bombs mate ;)
out of interest, what your view on any possible stadium expansion?
