Do you consider them Rivals?

I have a mate who is a county fan and I dont really feel anything towards them.
Also with a potential return to league football, what do you think their potential fan base is?

Got nothing against them whatsoever, used to live and work there years ago, and although City have always been my team, I used to watch them mid week if the Bluebirds weren't playing. :ayatollah:

Used to be massive rivals.

Trust me, any game against them in a cup, all will be renewed. :laughing6: :laughing6:

Never watched them in the eighties when there was bad feeling, 60's and early 70's was when I'd go to watch them on occasions for a football fix on a week night, the guys I went with knew I was a city fan, but I never had a problem Steve. :) :ayatollah:

Growing up in Llanrumney in the 60's and mid 70's used to go to as many city games at home and away as possible.

But on some days when city were not playing me and my mates used to catch a bus to Newport and walk to the old sommerton park corrugated Iron ground. Never no real trouble and I always felt a sense of camaraderie between us both. Maybe it helped that we were in the old second division and they were old forth division so no stealing each others thunder as it were.

Seen some good matches and players down there - John Aldridge, Tommy Tynan and Nigel Vaughan (before joining city), to name a few.

I personally hope that both welsh clubs go up from the conference. Great for welsh football in my opinion.

I'm preying my 46 years of support and many more downs than ups is about to change this season.

Come on bluebirds we can do it boys.

Working with a few older lads from newport, I can say they hate us a lot more them we hate them.
Maybe if they get back into the football league the rivalry will spice up a little.
I happened to be walking through newport train station and centre a few weeks back, when they were playing away at Hereford, had a bit of abuse thrown at me in the train station (wanker, scum etc) because I had my cardiff fleece on.
All banter tho, maybe not so if I didn't pick up the walking pace :?

Yeah this. I think if they go up, they'll go down. No real investment, fanbase should be good enough. Hope they prove me wrong

TBH I used to go and watch them (when Cardiff City were playing away) in the old days when they were in Division 2 with players of the likes of John Aldridge, Tommy Tynan, Keith Oakes and more :ayatollah:

These days they mean very little, although I do wish them well in their quest to get back to the Football League :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

To be fair I live in Newport and I don't know anyone who has anything against Cardiff, in fact a lot of people here drive around with Cardiff City car stickers! Not sure how many fans County could get, Newports really small compared to Cardiff...

Same here I live in Newport but Cardiff is easily the better supported team. I know loads of County fans and all of them have some kind of imaginary rivalary with us. It is quite pathetic really as rivalary has to work both ways and in this case it is most definately them against us with hardly a second thought back the other way.

TBH I hate Bristol City far more than Newport and most of the rest of us are the same.
