" THEN THERE WAS 3 - THE RACE FOR THE TITLE. "

Tue Apr 02, 2013 9:27 pm

The season started with 24 teams all able to win the Championship but as of today the 24 is down to just 3 teams who can lift the trophy at the end of the season.

CARDIFF CITY Currently on 83 points - Potential to finish with 95 points

Cardiff v Charlton
Burnley v Cardiff
Cardiff v Bolton
Hull v Cardiff

HULL CITY Currently on 77 points - Potential to finish with 89 points

Wolves v Hull
Hull v Bristol City
Barnsley v Hull
Hull v Cardiff

WATFORD Currently on 71 points - Potential to finish with 83 points

Millwall v Watford
Watford v Blackburn
Leicester v Watford
Watford v Leeds United

Mathematically there are 3 teams who can win the title, obviously with one point for City or Watford drop points anywhere and they are out of the equation.

I expect us to be promoted on Tuesday evening against Charlton and the title will come down to just Hull and ourselves.

Will go on record and predict a finish of 88 points for us :malky:

Hull on paper have the easiest but in reality it's probably the hardest, 3 trips to play sides fighting to avoid the drop :o

I did think hull had the easiest run in but looking at it now those 2 aways against Ipswich and Wolves will be make or break for them. Not easy, but then none of our games are either.

Win on Saturday would mean we only need 5 more points, a draw would mean we only need 8. Big game, looking forward to it.

They're away to Barnsley aswell. That'll be one of the hardest games.

True as they have been getting good results, it's just I hope after the 2 aways before that it won't matter anymore :ayatollah:

That's 3 wins/2wins and 3 draws

quite a mediocre amount but enough to get every team promoted in the past 5 years

You have to keep in mind most of the top 6 are in poor form

Hull are playing like us but without the effectiveness of seeing off their opponent. That is shown with their home form where they have lost their last 2.

Watford have finally won a game against a poor Hull. Before that they had not won on the last 3 occasions.

Palace are in meltdown with losing their last 3 games, 2 heavy defeats and a 1-0 loss against a 10 man Blackpool team.

Lately Forest have required 2 injury time goals to scrape a point in their last 2 games.

The teams chasing us seem to be feeling the pressure a lot more than us and it would not surprise me if they struggle to catch us with the points we already have. I predicted 86 points a while back for promotion, I now feel something like 82 could be enough.

hull still have some tricky games... wolves wont be easy either.. 13 pts from their last 15... wurzels are unpredicable.. as they say, no easy games in the championship.....

saturday for me will be the crunch fixture.. id be happy with a point to be honest as thats 1 gained for us and 2 lost for watford!

by the time we play hull im hoping its all sorted by then. :malky:

In the 30 years since the league changed to a 46 match season only 1 team, Reading, have won automatic promotion after losing more than 12 matches in a season. No team has ever won the Championship at this level having lost more than 12 matches.

Last night was the 13th defeat of the season for Hull so history will tell you that they will not win the Championship, automatic promotion maybe but with only 1 club ever having done it unlikely.

Watford have already lost 12 matches so if they lose 1 more history says they will not win the Championship.

The smart money will be on one club and one club only to be Champions and that club is Cardiff City. Skybet are no longer offering odds on us being promoted and we are 1/33 to be Champions.

Wins against Barnsley and Charlton at home will be enough.

We have 7 games left, I think 7 points will do, 85 points for promotion, 9 points to win the league 87 points .Watford and Hull will need to win 5 games from 6 for promotion ,and 6 from 6 to win the league. Cant see either of them doing that. :malky:

Agree with CB wins at home against Barnsley and Charlton will see us up, avoid defeat at Hull on top of those and we will be CHAMPIONS. :malky:

we just need to win our home games, all winable.
As for watford, if we get a result there i can see them losing away to peterboro and wall. that leaves them with only 9 points to even play for.

But don't we tend to perform better against the top sides than those we are expected to beat?

I might be wholly incorrect, but if not, I'm glad we have a more difficult run in...

An interesting statistic by Cardiffblue, but technically, he is wrong. In the 1994/95 season when Reading finished 2nd and lost 13 matches, they didn't get promoted, as only one club got automatic promotion that season (Middlesborough) and Reading didn't win the play-offs. Someone has to finish 2nd and if Watford lose one more match, someone will get promoted having lost more than 12 matches and it could even be more than 13 matches. This is due to the clubs at the bottom having more points than games they have played, which is very unusual. 52 points may not be enough to stay up. A very even division with everyone being able to beat anyone. I know we all want to get promoted to the Premiership, but the Championship has all the excitement.

Looking at that I cant see hull or watford getting more than 81 points tbh. Just incase im wrong lets aim for 3 more wins

I think we are already champions, all that's needed to be seen is by how many points.

I'll go for 9 or more.

This is what I think-two more wins and then we are promoted, three more wins and we are Champions.

I was surprised by that fair play.
