YOU'LL NEVER BAN A CITY FAN

Tue Apr 02, 2013 3:50 pm

Oh the irony, love it when our fans sing this and I chuckle to myself thinking for the biggest part of twenty years we have had the highest number of fans with banning orders in the country.

It's a bit like that smoke bomb video from Peterborough with those kids singing "we,re Cardiff City, we'll do what we want" I can just see the judge singing, "I'm QC Smithers, your doing three months, doing three months, I'm QC Smithers, your doing three months"

We were actually chanting that in the Ninian yesterday when stewards tried to throw someone out for standing, the whole block next to the away end stood up and defended him and the stewards backed off, love it when our fans stick together :ayatollah:

Will you stick together when they look at the CCTV and point who who was involved and ban him for three games, will you stay outside with him as a show of solidarity.

The reason the stewards avoid confrontation is because they don't need to take any, the job is done from the control room, you don't get away with much now days and the do what we want chant is right, you can do what you want, as long as you are prepared to suffer the consequences. ;)

I'm all for standing in certain areas but where it isn't 'allowed' people need to remember that the club can remotely turn off your season ticket and ban you from attending. I'm told this will be enforced quite rigidly next season (Sunderland did a similar thing)

Just pointing out ;) :ayatollah:

Yeh, totally agree, the club have supported it and encouraged it in that are so that those people that want to stand, can do so without disrupting others that want to sit, think in all fairness they have been quite flexible on this compared to some clubs.

The club always does f**k all outside of the 90 minutes of a match and they know they can't ban a whole block, so the fans win. :ayatollah:

Makes sense, you'll be happy, the club will be happy, and the block you stand up in front of now will be happy.

That's excellent news, if true - the club have been far too lenient on persistent standers, in my view - it's a shame someone wouldn't bring in a zero tolerance policy for standing when we go away!

Agreed.
Ignoring the right or wrongs of standing for now (even though pretty much all of the back half of 118/117 stand and the guy certainly wasn't the only person standing at the time), that moment was the first time since the rebrand I actually felt one of the things I used to love about city fans - how we always used to stick together.

Another Ninian exile going to be in 106 then. I shall see you there!

My mate is a steward in the aninian 117 and i was speaking with him about that incident.

He said that they told the chap they would have a chat at half time, not to cause a scene or cause unneccesary tension.

At half time they had a chat and the lad apologised.

In my opinion good stewarding snd strengthens the good relationship we have built with the stewards in that area

The stewards were completely out of order

Why didn't they have a chat with everyone else who was standing in the block then?
That is what wound people up. Not just that they were having a go at him - but because they were picking on one individual.

And that is ignoring how pointless the whole thing is anyway. The stewards know full well that as soon as they disappear then we all stand back up, so much so its a bit of a joke (one of them doesn't even bother saying sit down anymore, he just says "just a few minutes lads"). It is just pathetic really.

I like to stand during the game, and spend 80% of the game stood up in 117
Ive jst got a feeling nxt year the club will go down the route of studying CCTV and issuing letters to thos who stand.
I dont want that, but thats what i think will happen

I know what you mean. I travel with my mate and his elderly father who cannot stand for the whole game and it gets very frustrating for him at times. I know there are lots of others in the same boat and frankly it's not fair :(

Someone above said "My mate said the cameras are crap" (or words to that effect) :? Hmmm, let's wait and see ;) :ayatollah:

I'm quite lucky. At well over 6 foot I don't have a problem viewing over peoples heads or getting those immediately in front to sit down when the old man can't watch a game he's paid good money to watch

It's completely pointless. There's absolutely no point in it. Clearly everyone in our block wants to stand and they know that.

You are not wrong Nedd. Had 30 behind me on Monday. Mainly kids though, who seemed a little bit overawed by the whole experience to be honest.
