From the start of the season right up to last week, many City fans have posted their doubts about Malky as a manager.
In my opinion Malky never spent fortunes, built his own team, brought in never say die players,no jumped up pre-madonnas,brought in a few class players, not Malky's fault regarding injuries to Maynard and Mutch, after a defeat or a small blip Malky always comes back with a great win or a run of great results.
Yes some of the football has been negative at times, but at the end of the day surely it's results that matter?

Let's all be honest, We are going up and Malky has taken us up.
How do you think Malky will do in the Premier League? I think it will be tough and Malky is still learning, so the fans must be patient next season and get behind him all season, no matter what.

I was starting to get a bit of doubt, he has been doing a good job, but even though we played ok. Theres clearly something not quite right, like some players were jaded and we needed fresh blood in the starting 11.
In March i looked at the fixtures and thought "If he don't start using Kim, Mutch, McPhail we are in trouble"
First game in he makes the changes, we batter Blackburn, confidence restored

You cannot argue with 'Top of The League', this is what he should be measured against.
Done a great job, and will see it through!
Next season, I hope we do not follow the trend of other teams that get promoted and we support him through thick and thin (Let's be honest it's probably going to be more thin, than thick).
Those that criticise him will never be happy unless they're having a moan....
He's done an excellent job, those wannabee Managers can have their say but our league position does not lie.....

We've been top of the table for 4 months today too!

Great young manager and has many attribute that will see him be successful.
Unfortunately though thing could turn sour next season when results aren't as free flowing and Tan will jump the gun and follow suit like so many owners have done. 1/3 managers that were promoted last season are still at the club .
Hopefully I'm wrong as I think we have a Gem. But sadly football patterns tend to repeat themselves.

All this glorifying of Malky could come to nothing if we find ourselves in a relegation battle next season.
I have felt Malky has had to pass a number of tests since his arrival. The first test was to survive in the championship on his arrival. He exceeded their in a strong league. The next test was to become serious challengers for this season and show his knowledge of the transfer market. This is where the doubts have come in because although top of the league some of the signings have been questionable such as Velonkja. The signing of Frazer Campbell has forgiven the arrival of Etien and has put trust in the manger to go and get the right guys for our survival next season. Next season is the final test and if Malky passes that then it will be us with the test to keep him.

Best City manager since Scoular in my opinion and has done a fantastic job of rebuilding not just the team but the club since he has taken over.
Thanks to MM we now have a team with a super mix of youth and experience, most of which are on long contracts which puts the club in a great position.
As far as next season I think MM will do just fine, you only have to think back to the way he prepared and set the team up against Liverpool in the Carling Cup Final to realise he what it takes to mix it with other managers in the PL.
I wouldn't expect huge changes to the squad in the close season, just a few tweaks, because he has put together a squad of players capable of doing themselves justice in the PL. I think a proven goalscorer to go with Maynard, Campbell and Mason being a priority.
Even if we end up getting relegated MM will get us promoted again quickly and we may have to accept the yo-yo position for a few years before we establish ourselves in the PL.
Whatever MM is the man for the job I have no doubt about that.

I think Malky has to a large extent proved doubters like me wrong, as the table doesn't lie.
However, many fans have calling out for the players with more flair (like Kim) to play more for a while now, and when they do, the improvement is there for all to see.
I sincerely hope Malky will be a success in the Premiership, but if i'm being honest, I do have my doubts - I just hope I'm wrong next year, as I have been this year.

i think without bellamys influence malky might have struggled to get over the line the way he was going with his selections.
the team was being set up not to concede if possible and then try and nick a goal wheras it was blatantly obvious as it proved yesterday we had the talent to go out and dominate teams and win playing attacking football.
how kimbo disappeared from the selection process after his performance at blackpool was a mystery to me but hopefully the performance of the whole team yesterday will clear any negative idea's from malkys mind.
Tue Apr 02, 2013 9:20 am
Showed yesterday that he can drop a 'first on the team sheet' player.
Still feel he could be more positive with some selections, Noone for Conway yesterday would have been a good move.
Mason deserves more game time now.
Mutch & Kim a revelation in midfield.
Good sign that no goal has been conceded in open play whilst Barnett has been here.

I have said a number of times on this board after we have lost a game or lost a game and drawn a game, that I am always confident that Malky will nip it in the bud and quickly get back to winning ways, which he has done every time this season. That is a SPECIAL talent to have as a manager.
The biggest thing that we have to get right next year, is to manage expectations, we must all get into the mind set that finishing 4th from bottom and staying up, will be a massive achievement. As long as we do that, the season will be a huge success. If we all have that goal, then the season will be hugely enjoyable. If we finish higher, then that will be the cherry on the cake.
Tue Apr 02, 2013 9:51 am
I was really surprised at his team selection. 4 changes, new formation and a new tempo.
He gained a lot of respect from me for those changes following a loss.
We're still not up, three more wins I think will do it though. If we get three wins Watford can only drop points in one game (including tonight) and are unable to catch us.
Tue Apr 02, 2013 10:03 am
Since he's taken over I don't think we've lost successive games in the league, he's got great bouncebackability!
I've never doubted him, and it's clear the players haven't either.

Just look at Blackburn yesterday as to how individuals don't make a team. Malky has brought in players who will fit and give their all and work together. No better example than Joe Mason comes off the bench which has been the case for most of the season slots in and gave us the two goal cushion.
Premiership here we come.
Thanks Malky

As posted MM has taken us top of the league so in those circumstances he can't be faulted.
However, as stated by BakedAlaska last week you do sometimes wonder just how we are top of the league as the football hasn't exactly been vintage.
When you consider other factors like the demise of the relegated teams from the Premier League Blackburn, Wolves and Bolton who have provided no challenge whatsoever, alongside the fact that our main rivals for the automatic spots have been teams you expect to see in mid-table, Watford, C Palace and Hull and you wonder why we weren't promoted weeks ago.
I still think teams like Peterborough should-not be doing the double over us and we have been awful in many games where we have gone on to win or draw even if that is supposed to be a sign of a good team
Admittedly I am probably missing a big point in that MM assembled a team which was to specifically assembled to get us out of this division and next year he will assemble another team aimed at specifically keeping us in the PL for the mid-term.
That said I'm a football fan and I want my cake and to eat it so that's why I would prefer to see more performances like yesterday and not the 'hanging on to 1-0 debarcles' we saw at Peterborough 48 hours earlier.

Just out of interest where was this collective energy 48 hours earlier against Peterborough?

Malky Mackay is our most successful manager in history if he gets us promoted, especially if we win the Championship. It would mean that he got us to a cup final and won a championship winners medal in two seasons….his win rate is better than any other manager in our history at 48.45% apart from Billy McCandless who had a 53% win rate but that was due to a massive season winning Division 3 south
Tue Apr 02, 2013 11:16 am
I've had my doubts with Malky but he's proving a lot of people wrong.
Tue Apr 02, 2013 11:20 am
My only observation is that Malky seems to persevere a bit too long with some individuals eg Cowie, Conway, Smith, Helguson and Whitts when things are clearly not working , yet when he has eventually made a bold decision it seems to work. I believe every member of the squad should be playing a part even Ralls, Kiss and Etien. When individuals start to falter change it and stop leaving some of the squad out for too long like Mason, Kim, Mutch.
That said, he has done fantastically well and I am pleased with what he has acheived as manager of the mighty Cardiff City
Tue Apr 02, 2013 12:26 pm
Malky is a great young manager who has brought a strong professionalism and work ethic to the team that Jones critically failed to deliver. We are going up possibly as champions but I think the premiership may prove to be a struggle as many of the team do not have enough quality and the team lacks in style. A lot will depend how open Tans cheque book is and whether Malky can attract the right player. He has not always got his targets. Ultimately, I don't think Tan has a clue about football and if we do struggle, Malky will be gone by Christmas and the highs of this spring will be quickly forgotten. That is football and more importantly that is Cardiff City.

I haven't seen the highlights but 4 changes for yesterday indicates a few failings but at least Malky was prepared to make changes unlike past managers.

I dont think we should be critical of malky. Nobodys perfect and even fergie makes mistakes, the objective for the season was promoted. That I firmly believe that will be done and not only that we have been the best team in the league by a country mile ok it hasnt been pretty at times but hey its the championship the hardest league to get out of. League table doesnt lie we been top now four months. Come end of season that will be more like six months we been top, we have, totally dominated the, league imo. Anybody would of took this position we find ourselves in at this moment im sure. I also believe that we stay up next year and maybe even surprise a few people and get a top half finish.
Tue Apr 02, 2013 1:55 pm
I have been critical of malky regarding tactics n team changing bit yday he adressed it and hope he carrys on and id happy admitt i was wrong

we should give him the full season in the prem and not do a reading or southampton and stay loyal to malky

Annis, unfortunately many Cardiff City fans have the memory span of a Goldfish. On Saturday (vs Peterborough) Malky was 'inept' and not the person to take us to the Premier League

Yesterday (vs Blackburn( he was the best manager we've ever had!
I know it is a 'result-driven' business but we need to remember that Malky has achieved in two short (and disruptive) years what DJ couldn't achieve in SIX years!
He (Malky) is learning rapidly and rarely makes the same mistake twice. His preparations are articulate, as his signings show and we need to remember he has done all this without spending all the monies alledgedly made available to him
We have waited a long long time for a manager to finally 'deliver' and Malky has exceeded all initial expectations, so I (for one) will be 100% behind him for next season whilst others, I'm afraid, will start chanting 'Malky Out' very quickly if we are not fighting at the top
Next season will be a wonderful experience for all of us. Bring it on!!
Tue Apr 02, 2013 3:04 pm
If we play the way we play week in week out, we'll be relegated next season. We need a change of tactics, fresh players, and if that doesn't happen, Tan is exactly the type of manager willing to sack him.
Tue Apr 02, 2013 3:32 pm
Breath of fresh air when he came to the club, his work ethic is superb and he's still learning his trade.
Got all the attributes to become a great manager.
Tue Apr 02, 2013 3:39 pm
As you say ,you can't argue with the results my only gripe with Malky is that most of the time our football is quite boring to watch and I don't like the way he uses Whittingham I think he is wasting him where he plays him , if he gave Whittingham the role he gave Kim yesterday that would be ideal, other than that can't fault him

As if by magic, someone immediately pops up with a comment that proves my point
Lets get THIS season out of the way asap in order to give Malky maximum time to worry about NEXT season FFS!
