Would have been an indirect free kick then?
Mon Apr 01, 2013 10:25 pm
It was a dangerous challenge for the ball a lot worse than what Nani got sent off for. Surely a penalty.

No, because he gave us a direct free kick two yards outside the area, that picture clearly shows it's well inside the box.

Jesus Christ it actually was in the box. I was 50/50 on it. Now I see why Bellamy and the others raged.

He got that wrong as well though.

Any reason? (Not being funny genuinely not sure why?)
Also a question as I know your up on the rules.
If the ref stops a game due to an injury what's the rule about where the drop ball should be?

To me it was playing in a dangerous manner and with no intent towards the opponent. Very rarely see IDFK other than for passback these days though. The key wording about the laws is that almost everything is preceeded with "In the opinion of the referee" and all us refs see everything differently, which is also why there will never be any consistency.
Play should be restarted from where the game was stopped.

Don't think ref had his best game, both assistants didn't help. Thankfully the result was never in doubt.

Question I've aways wondered, what does a ref say to a player when he's sent off? They always seem to say something I wondered if there is a speech they have to give.

I don't know how anyone can think it's an indirect free kick? It was a late challenge and dangerous play. If Turner was kicked in the leg and went down everyone would be saying it's a penalty, so I don't understand why the decision should be any different because Turner was kicked in the head? As far as I'm aware, an indirect free kick can only be given for an obstruction or back pass?

YOU ARE BEING SENT OFF MATE. GO STRAIGHT TO THE DRESSING ROOM NOW UNLESS YOU WANT TO TURN THIS SENDING OFF INTO A MURDER.

I used to play at Welsh League level and got sent off once. The referee said to me "I'm sending you off for serious foul play", so I'm pretty sure the referee just explains the reason he is sending the player off.

The worse bit about it was that Mutch got told it was inside the box before the linesman changed his mind. The standard of refereeing in this league is shocking

I am currently emailing the football league for clarification on what they consider to be a case of serious foul play, deliberate penalty. And as to why to Professionally paid officials on the leagues payroll only deemed this a free kick.
As a professional driver I must make judgment calls throughout my working day. If I made a error using the same distance as the error they made, Not only would i have lost my job but I could've killed someone.
I have been trained to plan ahead and use my eyes to their maximum potential.
And seeing as how this wasn't a off the ball incident, it was a central part of play that all official should've been looking at, is made even more shocking by the fact that the linesman and referee conferred before awarding this dangerous challenge(high boot) a free kick outside of the penalty box.
If you don't believe the words, them use your eyes.

To be fair to that Linesman he did give Blackburn's goal offside when it was.
But there's still no explaining this, there's no consistency. If it's true he changed his mind then that's shocking
