Cardiff City 3 Blackburn 0

Over 24,000 turned up today incl 400 Blackburn fans.

Cardiff had 20 Shots Blackburn 2 shots
Cardiff 57% possesion
Cardiff 12 corners Blackburn 0

Cardiff City moved seven points clear at the top of the Championship with a superb 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Fraizer Campbell nodded home his sixth for the club from five yards out to finally break the Rovers resistance five minutes before the break.

And it was Campbell’s replacement Joe Mason who doubled the lead with four minutes to go before substitute Peter Whittingham wrapped up the points from the penalty spot in added time.

Cardiff’s response to the shock defeat to Peterborough was one of the best first-half displays the Bluebirds faithful had enjoyed this season, with Jordon Mutch and Kim Bo-Kyung both impressing on rare starts.

It took them just seven minutes to test Blackburn goalkeeper Jake Kean, the recalled Craig Bellamy warming the shotstopper’s gloves with a 25-yard free-kick.

A minute later Campbell missed a fantastic chance to open the scoring after Kean struggled to deal with a Bellamy corner.

Danny Murphy was one of a number of changes for Rovers and the home fans were up in arms that the former England international was not penalised for what they felt was a handball in the 28th minute.

Andrew Taylor linked up with Campbell before his effort hit Murphy but referee Craig Pawson waved away the Cardiff protests.

Rovers had the ball in the back of the net in the 35th minute when Leon Best got on the end of Morten Gamst Pedersen’s cross but the celebrations of the 399 away fans were cut short by another offside flag.

Cardiff were continuing to create chances at will. First Campbell rattled the crossbar with a right-footed shot on the turn from 12 yards out and three minutes later Bellamy was denied twice in quick succession.

First Kean saved from the Welshman and then from the follow-up David Jones cleared Bellamy’s second effort off the line.

The Bluebirds then made the breakthrough that their play deserved from the resulting corner.

Campbell rose unmarked to nod Bellamy’s corner past Kean from close range to finally break the stubborn Rovers resistance just five minutes before the break.

Six minutes after half-time the visitors were forced into swapping their keeper after Kean was stretchered off. It meant a debut for Poland international Grzegorz Sandomierski.

Cardiff’s chances were beginning to dry out and they were almost caught out when David Marshall just kept out Pedersen’s optimistic long-range free-kick in the 68th minute after being caught off his line.

With 15 minutes to go Jordan Rhodes was introduced for Murphy as the visitors looked for a late leveller.

But the goalmouth action was taking place at the other end, as Sandomierski was called upon to deny first Bellamy and then a fantastic effort from Kim Bo-kyung.

Then with six minutes to go he pulled off a superb reflex stop to keep out Ben Turner’s close-range header from Bellamy’s cross.

But the Pole was eventually beaten with six minutes left by a fine individual goal from Mason who turned two defenders before drilling a low, hard shot into the back of the net.

And in added time Mason was fouled by Scott Dann and Whittingham’s low penalty added gloss to their first win in four home games.

Best performance for months. At last MM played 3 in midfield and the team were brilliant. Well done City, back on track now and made this miserable bluebird smile for once! :ayatollah: :malky:

According to Tony Cottee (who was doing the punditry for SSN) the score flattered Cardiff but its good for a side not playing well to still pick up 3 points.

Tony Cotte can say what he likes we seen it with our own eyes and we were far superior to Blackburn and the score could have been even better to be honest.

57% possession
20 shots on target compared to two from Rovers
12 corners to City none to Blackburn

Nobody pissing on our chips.

We made Blackburn look like a fourth division team we ran the show what the f**k is Cotte on! we battered them even with their tactics of putting 11 players behind the ball and playing for a draw they could not cope :o

Yeah in all fairness he also said they looked like a fourth division side and "you can only beat what's in front of you"

Good win none the less :ayatollah:

Great win today chaps. Nearly there now! Congrats from a jealous Brighton fan - You really deserve promotion this year after being so close in the past. Hopefully we can join you, if not this year, next for sure. And take care of Nooney, still well loved down these parts, a great lad. Once again, well done and good luck.

Fingers crossed. If we win tomorrow and then against Leicester on Saturday, we can put Leicester to bed once and for all. Then a real possibilty of the scum in the play offs! I've noticed that you lot ALMOST hate that lot as much as we do! Classless delusional pricks that they are! Savour and enjoy the run in chaps - You've earnt it

Although, i have to ask...what is it with you lot when you play Posh?! Can't believe they doubled you! But hey...i guess this is why the Championship is one of the most competetive leagues in Europe.

Posh ouit played us at home but we simply made silly errors at their place but again can have no real complaints about the loss...we were poor...we took one point off you and felt we were unlucky to lose to you at home but fairplay you looked a good team over the two games we played...Leicester also looked strong but I have no idea what has happened to them...good luck mate and its good to chat with fellow fans.

He's entitled to his opinion, but thought we were excellent first half and deserved to be a few up. Campbell missed with an almost identical effort to the one he scored, numerous other efforts not much from Blackburn.
Second half not so dominant, but still some good chances created and Blackburn although a bit better only had one bit of brilliance from Kazim - Richards to shout about.
Enjoyed our football today, Mutch, Kimbo & Gunnar all performed well, with Bellers, Conway & Campbell a threat, solid at the back, impressed with Barnett nothing fancy but steady. Marshall barely tested.

Most pleasing thing for me was Malky making changes and the fresh players coming in and taking their chance. Many have been saying we've got the strongest squad we've had for ages and today they stepped up.
Keep em keen Malky! :ayatollah: :malky:

Fair play what a load of bollocks! We dominated from start to finish. Created chances and restricted them to scraps. A comfortable 3.0 and perhaps we deserved more, but ill take what we got.

Cardiff manager Malky Mackey paid tribute to the "character and mentality" of his side after their 3-0 win over Blackburn.

Goals from Fraizer Campbell, Joe Mason and a Peter Whittingham penalty gave Cardiff a commanding seven-point cushion over Hull at the top of the Championship table.

The manner of the victory was especially pleasing for Mackay as they inflicted a fifth defeat in eight games on lowly Rovers.

"I'm absolutely delighted with the position we're in and this win gives us that little gap with seven games to go," said Mackay.

"I've a group who have been up there for four months to be analysed, criticised, shot at, ignored and studied, but we have stayed in the top position. We have shown a great character and mentality within our team.

"We are fighting every inch to make sure we give our supporters the dream they want.

"The performance and result was very pleasing. We started really well and we were relentless.

"We looked like a team that dominated from start to finish. That doesn't happen too many weeks in this division."

Not as much but ill be happier after 2 more wins!
To be fair to MM he did what he should have done ages ago - put 3 in midfield. Kim and Mutch were excellent but the whole team worked hard and closed down quickly. It's was the Cardiff that started the season, not the shadow of a team I've witnessed for 2 months :ayatollah: :malky:

Don't know what game he was watching, we hammered them and really could have won this by 5 or 6 nil, and has restored my faith in this team. Kimbo and Mutch were excellent, begs the question though, why hasn't Malky ued them in recent months etc.
Well played lads excellent throughout. :malky: :malky:
