We have done it before and we can do it again - that’s what Darren Ferguson will tell his Peterborough United players before they face Championship table-toppers Cardiff City at London Road tomorrow (3pm).
Posh produced the shock of the season when triumphing 2-1 in the reverse fixture back in December.
The Welsh side had won all 10 previous home game before Posh silenced the Cardiff City Stadium thanks to goals from Michael Bostwick and Dwight Gayle in a stunning performance.
Now Ferguson’s men are out to claim another positive result against opposition seemingly bound for the Premier League to complete an unbeaten March. Posh have collected nine points from a possible 15 thanks to wins at Blackburn and Blackpool, and draws against Charlton, Ipswich and Leeds.
Ferguson said: “We always tend to have a decent March and that has been the case again. Getting a result against Cardiff would finish it off nicely. We showed a great deal of confidence to play the way we did at Cardiff given the poor run we had been on going into the game. “Anyone who didn’t know what the table looked like at the time would have thought we were the team top of the league.
It wasn’t a case of Cardiff being complacent and taking us lightly, we were just better than them on the day.
“We had the belief, we took the game to Cardiff and played with a high tempo. All three of those things will be needed again on Saturday. Cardiff are clearly a very good team with a huge amount of character judging by the number of goals they have scored in the final 15 minutes of games. You will never find two games of football that are the same but we have showed the lads plenty of video clips of our win there in the build-up to this match. We all know that anyone can beat anyone else on any given day in the Championship.”
Cardiff can expect to be cheered on by a large travelling support at London Road. The Bluebirds’ owners has laid on subsidised travel to tomorrow’s game.
And Ferguson is also hopeful of a big turnout of Posh fans for the clash against the best team in the Championship.
He added: “I would like to think we will get a decent crowd on Saturday and hope the fans get behind us. They can play a big part in helping us get over the line. We all want the same thing - Championship football again next season - but they to be patient with the way we play.”
