The man who gave us Goodfellas Casino and Gangs of NY
And worked with Mark Whalberg on HBO's Boardwalk Empire to adapt the next TV drama series based on Gangs of NY.

Does that mean this next season of Boardwalk Empire is the last? Will he use Gangs of New York as a kind of Boardwalk Empire prequel?

Seeing how one is in NewYork and one is in Atlantic city. I'd guess NO.

Thought gangs of New York was one of scorseses worst films.

Best director of our time. Means streets, king of comedy and bring out the dead!. I missed boardwalk empire though.

Also Gangs is fictional, whilst Boardwalk has loose adaptations of historical characters.
Seeing how we are to witness Capones take over of Chicago and Lansky and Lucianos rise to power.

Gangs was hyped up and failed to deliver the blockbuster build up even though DDL was awesome as butcher bill.
What's shocking is the Snub for Goodfellas but the Oscar for the departed.

Great director, love his films. What film did Goodfellas miss out to that year?

"Dances with Wolves" I believe.
His 3 best films are "The Age of Innocence", "Raging Bull" & "Taxi Driver"

It doesn't have to match geographically. It could be about how ancestors of certain fictional characters in Boardwalk Empire found their way to the US.

No there just to much exploration of current characters to show, it would be redundant to stop it and start an origins story.
