£20 Million?

Thu Mar 28, 2013 7:15 pm

Interested to know what forum members think Malky should do with the suggested Transfer Budget IF we get promoted?

Some players I think we could and maybe should go for, I know a few will raise eyebrows.

Brayford - Derby defender, no secret Malky has shown previous interest?
Barnett - Here on loan, if he performs til end of season, why not try to make permanent to compliment what we've already got?
Neil Taylor - Swansea left back, highly unlikely but with Ben Davies fully established for club & country and Richards just signing a new contract, once back from injury ( I believe he's nearing a return ? ) if he wants first team football, what could be better than a move here and 2 Welsh left backs playing Prem football?
Jonathan Williams - Palace & Wales midfield, must confess didn't know much about him other than reading a few glowing reports recently. Very impressed with him and he seems to like us?
Philip Neville - Everton, contract up and COULD prove a useful acquisition with his vast experience and versatility?
Charlie Austin - Burnley striker, linked before, brilliant start to season but not so hot now which might mean his price tag has reduce, still think he'd be a great signing to add to what we've got?

Probably need a keeper too, but I'd be very happy with this lot, IF we go up and IF we have this amount as a Transfer Budget! :ayatollah: :malky:
Over to you?

Philip Neville sounds good, doubt the rest :malky:

Tbh Neil Taylor would never be allowed to leave

I think we should sign Jonathan Williams for sure

Wes hoolahaan?
Adam Matthews?
Joe ledley?

What if MM spent nothing and went with the squad we have?

Would we avoid relegation?

The Taylor idea is very debatable, but when he is back to full fitness either he or Ben Davies is not going to play regularly. Richards who came on for Wales in the week is waiting in reserve and has just agreed a new contract. 2 outa 3 ain't bad but threes a crowd.
The Jacks haven't missed Taylor and fair play to them for throwing Davies in.

It would be touch and go admittedly, but the Premier League is not as strong as we think (just look at Norwich/Swansea etc) and I have a feeling that the squad we have is better than the bottom 3 in the PL.

Well £1.2m will probably be taken off for the red seats so that leaves £18.8. We spent £12m this season so if this years spending is anything to go by we will end up spending £5m on a injury prone striker who barely plays all season and another £3m on a Eastern European striker who isn't ready for English football. We may also spend £4m on a player from Asia who again won't be a major part of first team plans. That leaves us with £6.8m to spend on 4 or 5 players that will actually get a reasonable amount of game time next season.

Why are us and Norwich an example of the Premier League not being strong as opposed to an example of two clubs who have gone about their business the right way and made shrewd decisions?

Reading & Southampton went up last year automatically and are both in real danger of the drop with Reading almost gone. Is this not then a sign of the strength of the Premier League?

We can never be held up as team that has made shrewd decisions. We have spent well beyond our means and our success in the transfer market this year has been patchy at best.

Agree about strength of Prem, I've said this a few times this season. Without checking I believe Arsenal are as close to drop zone points wise as they are to top of table.

I certainly wouldn't advocate doing a QPR and spending recklessly, just think the type of names I mentioned would improve our squad significantly. :ayatollah: :malky:

No.

Then your argument makes no sense.

NJ, out of interest, how do you see the left back situation down there turning out?

Good question.

Laudrup wants 2 players for every position. Given the extra games we'll get next season with the Europa League (assuming we get into the league stages), both Taylor and Davies will get their fair share of games.

But right now the 1st choice left backs shirt is Davies' and it's up to Taylor to try and win it back.

In my opinion next season, Taylor will be first choice with Davies coming in as second choice in a rotation system.

Taylor also showed during the Olympics that he's very capable of covering at right back as well so will be an indispensable squad member for next season.

Fair enough, we were only going to offer a cheeky bid of a few million anyway! ;)

With Jazz Richards signing a new deal it looks increasingly likely that Dwight Tiendalli will be released at the end of the season. He would be a great signing for a team coming up form the Championship as he has been excellent in pretty much every appearance for us since singing earlier in the season and also has shown he is equally adept at right back or left back.

Malky will go for young hard working players. Alot of top Championship players i reckon.

I think we have the back bone for the premier league with Whits, Bellers, Campbell, Maynard, Hudson and Marshal, Maybe a few others. :ayatollah:
