If the seats turn red.....

Wed Mar 27, 2013 9:37 pm

Is that the end of any hope that blue will be returned for a very very very long time, or possibly for ever?

The cost to turn back to blue would already going to be a lot of money but with this £1.2m added to change the colour of the seats I can't see any future chairman forking out to change them back.

Not to mention as time goes on - the red will get institutionalised amongst the new fans and before long turning back to blue will seem as alien as the initial move to red amongst an awful lot of fans.

It'd be Cardiff City in purely name for me then. I feel as much love for this current shell as I would for a new club from Cardiff. Nothing.

Got to laugh at this, he's been going on about our imminent implosion due to our debts, and now on about the red being institutionalised as time goes on. :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6:

Surely £1.2m could be better spent elsewhere

How will red not be institutionalised?

If we are getting new fans with the lure of Prem football with a lot of blues leaving then a lot of the fans in the stadium will only know red. If Tan is here for 5-10 years am awful lot of people in the stadium won't even remember the club having a blue home kit.

It would be.. If red stayed for 25 years, many fans would only know of a CCFC in red.

Doubt it would even take that long chuckles.

The attendance has grown from 7k to 22k in 10 years, so 15k of our attendance have only been going regularly for a decade or less. A similar spell of red would mean they have had just as much exposure of red as blue, some even way more red than blue.

As time goes on red wont seem like a radical colour change by a Malaysian owner anymore, it will just be the colour of Cardiff city in many people's eyes.thats when the issue of turning back to blue becomes a major problem.

But for the last year or so, in your many guises, you have predicted us going bust, never to return again.
Therefore making institutionalsation an impossibility.

I don't believe we will go bust, and apparently neither do you now. :D

I don't think I've ever said we would go bust, although that also is not unfathomable. If we only last one season in the Prem it's entirely possible, not many clubs our size can sustain the losses we do plus the debt already over our heads. It's something that time will tell.

However the institutionalisation of the red is a fact based on human behaviour and perception.

We will be back in blue when VT sells us IMO. No proof just my opinion. The cost of turning back will be relatively small compared to the value of the club.
If not and red becomes institutionalised, then why would we want to turn back to blue? Won't happen though as VT will be gone in 3 years.

Well you would want to turn back to blue as its the colour you associate with the club I assume.

New fans however will feel just as upset in 10 years time if they took the red away as someone who has supported the blue for 10 years before it changed. It's all about new fans and what they want as they now make up the majority. That's why it becomes institutionalised, it won't change anyone's minds that have known blue all their lives but unfortunately they will be in a minority so there would be no desire for a new owner to alienate the majority if his fans by turning from red to blue.

As for the cost, it's very high. You are probably talking £2-3 million to change everything back again. That's serious money when an owner wants to make a profit out of the club as he won't get a return on it. The club isn't actually worth that much, in a business sense right now it's worth nothing. It loses £20m a year.

Of course if we are in red in 10 years then we probably won't turn back, but I don't believe that will happen or anywhere near it.
Fail to see how changing a kit / badge will cost big money.
I'm not talking about the business now, but if we become established in the PL
All IMO, as usual you won't change it.

Because everything needs to be changed from carpets and furnishings to walls even down to headers and footnotes on club admin apparel.

It's expensive and not just the obvious needs changing, obviously the further it goes the more it costs to reverse. If the cladding changes which I'm sure it will then that's more again.

Re: If the seats turn red.....

Wed Mar 27, 2013 10:43 pm

The chance of it all being changed back under a new owner is not that bad considering if VT left us and we were in the Premier League I would see us changing back because owners will pay stupid money on anything these days.

But you make a good point the OP.

Not prohibitive to VT, so won't be to our next wealthy owner. And straight away they can change the shirt and badge for zero cost. A bit of decorating and some letter headed paper can follow.
Time will tell.

With all the hostilities and split fanbase we have at the moment I can only see this as a good move. They institutionalise the younger fans and those two problems go.
